If you love Game of Thrones you know that HBO might have a programming problem coming up real quick. With only 2 or 3 seasons left HBO needs to start the ground work for their next big TV series now while we are still watching the channel. If they wait too long they will miss a prime opportunity for low cost marketing to us fanatics.
Who is Adi Shankar? Well like all people on the internet lets trust what Wikipedia has to say without any further research cause that's how us millennials does it.
Adi Shankar (born Aditya Shankar; January 8, 1985) is an American film producer, YouTube personality, and occasional actor, who is known for specializing in R rated violent films in the action and crime genres.
The success of The Grey made him the youngest producer to have an independent film in the number one spot at the American box office.
He is responsible for mainstream feature films including Dredd as well as revisionist superhero "bootleg" fan films" including The Punisher: Dirty Laundry, and Power/Rangers.
In 2014 Shankar ranked #20 on GQ Magazine's list of “Most Influential Global Indian Men.”
Lets take a look at some of these fan films that wiki mentioned as a resume. Some of the best productions you can see on YouTube when they don't take it down for copyright reasons. First up Dirty Laundry a Punisher short fan film.
"I wanted to make a fan film for a character I've always loved and believed in - a love letter to Frank Castle & his fans..."- Thomas Jane
Directed by Phil Joanou
Written by Chad St. John
Produced by Adi Shankar
Now lets go to Vimeo as the Power Rangers reboot short film he made is NSFW and well just plain too awesome for YouTube.
Wow right??? Good hardcore gritty action I would watch either if they were made into hour long HBO shows religiously. I would blog and tell all my friends about it. HBO specializes in exactly this type of entertainment. Adi Shankar While having YouTube success isn't considered a huge movie draw if his name is attached to the project. He had early success with The Grey, but Dredd is only considered a cult classic and one of my personal favorite movies. I think the perfect solution to HBO looming content problem is bringing in Adi Shankar and his hard R style.
Adi Shankar would benefit on HBO because you can create the show and do not have to appeal to a large general audience to be a success. Adi could create his Hard R gems without having to worry about box office numbers. He could appeal to his niche making quality television with adult themes something HBO loves. This is why I think they are a match made in heaven.
