Veteran comedy actress Anne Meara has died of natural causes after enjoying a 60 year long career in both film and television, she was 85 years old.
Meara first rose to prominence in the '60s as one half of the comic duo Stiller & Meara alongside her husband, Jerry Stiller. After making her beginnings on The Ed Sullivan Show, Meara tackled scores of film and TV roles including a prominent role on All My Children and recurring guest spots on Sex and the City, ALF and The King of Queens.
During her career, Meara was nominated for four Emmy Awards and won a Writers Guild Award as a co-writer for the TV movie, The Other Woman when she turned her hand to scriptwriting.
Along with her 49-year-old son, Ben Stiller, Anne Meara is survived by her husband of 61 years, daughter Amy Stiller and grandchildren.
The Stiller family released a statement to The Associated Press on Sunday that reads:
The Stiller family is deeply saddened to share the beloved Anne Meara passed away last night at the age of 85. She is survived by her husband and partner in life Jerry Stiller. The two were married for 61 years and worked together almost as long. Anne's memory lives on in the hearts of daughter Amy, son Ben, her grandchildren, her extended family and friends, and the millions she entertained as an actress, writer and comedienne
Ben Stiller has also taken to Twitter to pay his respects to his later mother.
