The Intelligence Quotient (IQ) was designed to measure human intelligence and is determined based on standardized tests. Classifications vary, but generally between 90 and 109 is average intelligence and makes up about 50% of the population.

Occupations that come to mind needing high IQ's would be scientist, engineer, doctor, and others. Now acting on the other hand is by no means an easy job, but it's not necessarily held in high intellectual esteem, although at times it should be.
