Channeling the methodical nature of a serial killer, Ryan Murphy continues to announce, one-by-one, who is joining the Season 5 cast of American Horror Story.
The latest guest checking into the Hotel is Max Greenfield, who's most famous for his over-the-top role as Schmidt on Fox comedy New Girl. Unlike many of the other cast members like Angela Bassett and Lady Gaga, it seems like Ryan Murphy has already sealed Greenfield's fate.
Looks like he won't be lasting long. Knowing Ryan Murphy's penchant for killing off famous guest stars, I'm thinking Greenfield's character will have an early check-out date... just not in the kosher, see ya' later, have a nice day type of way. I'm expecting a particularly horrific death scene early in the season, and I know exactly how Schmidt would respond to such an early offing:
This will certainly be a departure from our typically hilarious impression of Greenfield, but he's clearly up to the challenge. He tweeted to Ryan Murphy expressing his gratitude and excitement.
With this latest announcement, I can't help but notice a major commonality among most of the male cast members (all of them if you exclude Evan Peters). Now, if you'll allow me a little room for speculation, let me throw out a potential idea for next season.
Could they all be brothers?
I mean, look at these four. If they're not exact carbon copies, they at least have glaringly similar qualities—dark hair, blue/light eyes, and a significant amount of good looks. Either Ryan Murphy has a very specific type, or this has to be some sort of plot point.
My theory? Kathy Bates runs the titular hotel with her four sons working under her (Matt Bomer, Cheyenne Jackson, Max Greenfield, and Wes Bentley). When one of them (Greenfield) dies under mysterious circumstances, his death sets the rest of season 5 into motion.
Again, this is total conjecture on my part, but I think it would make a lot of sense and would explain why Greenfield's casting is such a big deal.
