It's not every day you graduate from one of the best Arts schools in the world. And unless you're one of his costars, it's probably less likely that you're going to be addressed and sworn at by one of the world's most famous actors.
"Tisch graduates, you made it. And, you're f*cked!" Words of wisdom from the inimitable Academy Award winning actor Robert Di Nero who spoke at New York University's Tische School graduation last week.
The actor paired some jokes with some seriously heartfelt advice regarding the importance of trust and collaboration. If what he says is how he became such a massive success, then I'd say watching his speech is well worth the time:
In case the 16-minute long video is a bit lengthy for you, here are a few of my favorite lines from his speech.
On taking chances:
As corny as it sounds, I say, ‘Don’t be afraid to fail.’ I urge [my children] to take chances, to keep an open mind, to welcome new experiences and new ideas. I tell them that if you don’t go, you’ll never know. You just have to go out there, be bold and go out there and take your chances.
On power and working together:
The power doesn't come from the title. The power comes from trust, respect, vision, work, and collaboration.
On making mistakes:
Did you get straight A's in school? If so, good for you, congratulations. But in the real world, you'll never get straight A's again. There are ups and there are downs. And what I want to say to you today is that it's okay.
I don't know about you, but I think he gave some pretty sound advice to these graduates. Welcome to the real world, class of 2015! I think we're all excited to see what you can do.
