FINALLY I saw the movie that EVERYONE is raving about! Where do I even begin?

Well, if you’re expecting a strong narrative with great character development you won’t find it here. Mad Max: Fury Road is a sight to behold. The trailers don’t even scratch the surface of this film. If you’re looking for action, action, and TONS of action, then you found the PERFECT film. The movie is everything you’d expect from George Miller AND more. This film certainly does not disappoint and if you’re on the fence about seeing it, I’d like to give you FIVE Reasons to go watch Mad Max: Fury Road.

5. It’s an Action Extravaganza!

Let’s cut right to the chase. If you are looking for a summer blockbuster with A LOT of action then this film is for you. There is action throughout the entire film from start to finish. Sure there is some narrative, but honestly the action never stops. The fight/chase scenes are choreographed beautifully and could not have been executed any better. The non-stop action is PURE INSANITY, plain and simple. I’m not even joking when I say that this film is probably one of the greatest action flicks I have ever seen. Did I mention that there's lots of action?

Sure the narrative and the story is there, but that’s not the main focal point of the film. Think of this film as if you are going to a rock concert. The music never stops, but when you come to the finale your mind is absolutely blown! As I said, there are lots of action scenes but the final battle brought this movie to a satisfying and worthy conclusion. The final thirty minutes are intense and well worth the price of an admission ticket alone.

4. Charlize Theron’s Performance

Since this movie is titled Mad Max: Fury Road, you would think that the main character would be Mad Max right? WRONG! While you can make an argument and say that Max was a key character, it was Theron’s performance as Furiosa that stole the show.

Without going into spoilers (and there really isn’t all that much anyways), Furiosa was arguably the central character of the film. Heck even the wives play a larger role than expected in the movie (you’ll see what I mean when you see it). The story was based around her and that is not a bad thing. She really is the Ellen Ripley of this movie, stealing each scene from the other characters. Theron once again gives it her all, and she is yet another reason why you should not hesitate to see this spectacle.

3. The Soundtrack

If you’ve read any of my other articles involving a list, you will notice that I usually have the soundtrack near the top. That is simply because in my opinion, a soundtrack in a film could make or break it. If you enjoyed Hans Zimmer’s bombastic noise from Christopher Nolan's Batman films or Man of Steel, then you will enjoy Junkie XL’s take on this movie. Drums are a necessity when it comes to a great action film and it shows.

As I said earlier, this film is like experiencing a rock concert because every note, every beat, and every sound all come together beautifully. The music draws you right into the film and makes you feel like you are a part of this epic apocalyptic event. If you listen closely you will notice that the Flaming Guitar Man from the "Doof Wagon," as it is referred to, actually plays along with the soundtrack of the movie. It’s a nice touch to a film that already has enough going for it.

2. The Practical Effects

Now don’t get me wrong, this film does have plenty of CGI throughout, but it also has lots of practical effects to keep people like me excited. The majority of the car explosions were all practical. With a $150 million budget, the film exceeds all expectations when it comes to the practical effects. George Miller is pure genius. Sure the director used green screens from time to time especially when the characters are seen fighting on top of “moving” vehicles, but for the most part the film was shot using practical effects. The video below contains footage from the making of the film and it’s awesome! After watching the movie, you can probably tell which scenes were which while viewing the behind the scenes footage. Check it out!

1. George Miller’s Craftsmanship

If anyone deserves high praise it’s definitely the man behind the camera. George Miller has created a savage wasteland where everyone fights for survival with little to no resources available. If there’s one thing he deserves the most credit for, it’s the designs of the different vehicles in the movie. I mean c’mon who would think of a vehicle that is powered by a guitar player with rear playing drummers, vehicles that shoot flame throwers, and one’s that are covered with spikes? 'Bloomberg.com' wrote an amazing article which goes into detail of EVERY vehicle used in the film. Click right here to check it out!

I’m sure you’re all wondering right now what rating I give this film. Well, overall I’d give it a solid 8 out of 10 stars. If the narrative and story were better, I’d probably push it to a 9 but unfortunately it wasn’t there. The acting was good but there were a few standout stars including (obviously) the beautiful Charlize Theron, Nicolas Hoult as the zany character Nux, and Tom Hardy was decent as the title character, though I wish they could have given him more dialogue. But the real standout star was George Miller himself. The man is seventy years old! SEVENTY YEARS OLD and still going strong.

So should you see this movie in the theaters? ABSOLUTELY. I guarantee that you will appreciate this film a lot more if you see it with all of the surround sound and epic music to go along with it. The film is worth seeing for the action alone, and that was clearly Miller’s goal from the very beginning.

This is a film for which you will need to turn your brain off and not take it seriously. Appreciate the movie for what it is: It’s CRAZY, PSYCHOTIC, and just plain WEIRD. So what are you waiting for? Go see it, enjoy, and most importantly have fun because I have a feeling we won’t be getting another fantastically done action film for some time.
