Today I watched a film I'd been wanting to see for a while but wasn't in a cinema near me so I had to wait for the DVD, now I've bought it I have now finally seen it. That film was Under The Skin, Under The Skin revolves around an alien in the form of a woman sent to earth by her race to seduce men and bring them back to her dimension to be harvested; the alien stats to feel for her prey and starts experiencing human behaviour which causes things to go wrong. Under The Skin is directed by Jonathan Glazer and stars Scarlett Johansson.

There are quite a few positives to this film, which include: the story is good, the tone is fantastic, the acting is good, the score is brilliant, the visual style is great and there are many disturbing scenes. To expand, the plot in this film is very interesting and intriguing it makes you think about it after you have finished watching it; a film that holds up to that kind of analysis is very good, Scarlett Johansson is brilliant in this film conveying her emotions perfectly with barely any dialogue. The tone in this film is perfectly set up it is very creepy and tense and this is mostly due to the score (which is very creepy and unique) and the visual style. The visual style is very unique as the plot is mostly told through imagery instead of actual speech and the vision of the alien dimension is very weird and disturbing. Building off that, another part of the film that helps establish the creepy tone is some of the disturbing scenes; for example: when you first discover what happens to the prey, the entirety of the beach scene and the ending. I'm not going to spoil anything as you have to watch these scenes yourself to see how freaky and upsetting they are. There is only one negative I can think of which is that the story progression is very slow which can make some scenes a bit dull.

Overall I thought this film was very good as it is very interesting, creepy and intriguing. So for the reasons I have mentioned I rate this film:
