Even though just the trailers for films like Poltergeist or Insidious: Chapter 3 have me checking under the bed before crawling in, I'm sure many of you are much braver souls than I.

So if spooky movies just aren't quite appeasing your horror-loving side, maybe one of these scary stories from Creepypasta and Reddit NoSleep will do the trick!

1. "The M Show Fan Club"

We all know kids can be a bit obsessed when it comes to their favorite TV shows. 'The M Show Fan Club' tells a short, but terrifying account of what happens when that obsession leads to danger. It's one of those rare stories that will make you glad you no longer have the imagination or naivety of a child.

"When I was 9 years old I had a favorite TV series. It had human actors and actors in animal suits and funny and educational clips in between. I don’t want to name it because it was a really good show and this story is not at all a fault of the show. I will just call it “The M Show.”

2. "White With Red"

This is a classic Creepypasta that will make your hairs stand on end. If you loved The Shining then 'The Keyhole' is perfect for you. You might not feel comfortable staying in any hotels for a while, but it's worth it.

"A man went to a hotel and walked up to the front desk to check in. The woman at the desk gave him his key and told him that on the way to his room, there was a door with no number that was locked and no one was allowed in there. She explained that it was a storeroom, and that it was out of bounds."

3. "Plot Holes"

Have you ever seen things in your life that didn't quite make sense? The kind of thing that baffles you, but your mind covers it up? You'll be lost in the story after reading only the first sentence. 'Plot Holes' is kind a little confusing throughout, but the last few sentences tie the entire thing together in a very eerie way.

"The day I found my first hole was the day my best friend came back from the dead."

4. "Candle Cove"

Another older Creepypasta that some of you might be familiar with. Like 'The M Show Fan Club,' this one proves that kids can be adorable, but also the source of a lot of scary stuff! It's told through the perspective of four people in a chat forum. Serious nightmare fuel!

Subject: Candle Cove local kid's show?
Does anyone remember this kid's show? It was called Candle Cove and I must have been 6 or 7. I never found reference to it anywhere so I think it was on a local station around 1971 or 1972. I lived in Ironton at the time. I don't remember which station, but I do remember it was on at a weird time, like 4:00 PM.

5. "The Showers"

A longer, two-part story that is told and re-told by an avid fan of scary stories and urban legends. Even though he knows they're fake, what happens when his logical thinking is compromised and he's stuck in a real one? For any of you skeptics out there, let this be a lesson to you.

"I will attempt to recreate the amazing story that Mr. Mays told the class that day. The way in which he told this story rendered the horror-junkies speechless and the rest of the class terrified. The same girl that had raised her hand to ask about the paper was holding her knees to her chest by the end of it, a look of terror on her face."

6. "I Was Part of the Queen's Guard"

Have you ever been paralyzed by fear? Well, 'I Was Part of the Queen's Guard' will give you that stomach-sinking feeling of anxiety the minute you start it. I'm sure we've all had stories of horrible jobs, but this one takes the cake.

"I noticed her standing in the back, just staring at me. She was a good looking woman, probably early forties, really dark long hair and somewhat pale, which made me think she was English. She did seem to be the part of the tour as she stood with all of the others.
After the group finally took enough pictures and realized I wasn’t gonna laugh, they started moving on. Except the pale woman who stayed and kept watching me."

7. "Button Head"

Not a ghost, not an alien, 'Button Head' is far worse. It's a short story, but definitely long enough to scare anyone from walking down any dark hallways alone.

"More interesting, and often much more dark, were the stories that circulated between scientists and lab staff within the walls of the complex. One such rumor posited that physicists had briefly made contact with humans from the distant future, and that the transmission was I.B.D.: 'Interesting, But Disturbing.'"
