2000 was a big year in a lot of ways. Lots of things happened in sports, movies, music, and just the entire world. Today I will be highlighting the movies from the year I was born. This is not the best rated movies, it is the best
10. Next Friday
The first movie was sheer comedic genius. It was one of the funniest movies that I've ever seen. Like all profitable movies at the time, the studio attempted to make a sequel. This movie takes place shortly after the first. After Craig Jones (Ice Cube) beats the crap out off Deebo (Tommy Lister Jr.), Deebo gets thrown in prison. Rumors start to swirl the Deebo is going to break out of prison. As a precaution, Craig's father sends him to his uncle. Trouble ensues. This movie isn't as good as the first one obviously, but it isn't horrible. This is the worst rated movie on my list receiving a measly 20% from Rotten Tomatoes and a 41 on Metacritic.
The 3rd in a good series of movies, this is a semi-parody horror movie. The series was in a good, popular spot. It takes place of course, after the second movie where the main character, Sidney Prescott is in hiding from what had occured in the last movie. The movie was considered worse than it's predecessors, not making as much money. The movie was largely outdone by the next movie on this list. It received a 36% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 56 on Metacritic.
8. Mission Impossible 2
The second movie of a now 5 movie franchise, this was one of the better sequels I've seen in my life. With the likes of Tom Cruise and Ving Rhames, it his to be at least a good movie. With little connection to the first movie, this one could be by itself. Agent Ethan Hunt is trying to stop Chimera, a chemical weapon, from being unleashed. This is one of the less great Mission Impossible movies. Nonetheless, it is a great movie. It received a 57% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 60 on Metacritic.
7. Remember The Titans
This is one of the greatest sports movies of all time. This is the story of Coach Herman Boone, portrayed by Denezel Washington and how he united a diverse high school football team. The over come much adversity over the course of a season and become a real team. If you've been in school since then, you've probably seen this movie. It is one of the deepest sports movies and one in a long line of Mr. Washington's performances. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 73% and Metacritic gave it a 48.
6. American Psycho
Wow. This movie is screwed up. The portrayal of Patrick Bateman by Christian Bale is a top contender for his best performance ever. This is the story of a Psychotic Investment Banker that is also a serial killer. The main character in this movie is truly insane in every sense of the word. With the actors like Christian Bale,Willem Dafoe, Jared Leto, and Resse Witherspoon, it has to be pretty good. It received a 67% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 64 on Metacritic.
If one word describes this movie, it's confusing. A movie that literally goes backwards. This is a cinematic masterpiece. Guy Pearce does a great job as Leonard Shelby, a man with anterograde amnesia. Leonard is trying to find the man who raped and killed his his wife. As you can probably guess, his amnesia gets in the way of his investigation. Christopher Nolan directs this movie and he does it right. It received a 92% on rotten tomatoes and an 80 on Metacritic.
4. High Fidelity
As a music nerd, I love this movie. It stars John Cusack and Jack Black as record store owners. John's character, Rob, has a poor understanding of women. His current girlfriend breaks up with him, he looks up his past girlfriends to see where he went wrong. This is a funny-drama that a lot of people can relate to. This movie is masterfully written and acted. It received a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 79 from Metacritic.
A great "Superhero" movie that was that darker kind of movie before it was popular. Samuel L. Jackson's character has a rare disease called Osteogenesis Imperfecta where his bones break easily. Obsessed with comic books, he wonders if there's someone else out there that is the opposite if him. Bruce Willis's charcter is the opposite that Jackson's character so desperetly craves. Willis's character finds things about Elijah that make him think differently about him. This is a great movie with two great actors and some of Willis's best acting. This M. Night Shyamalan movie received 68% on Rotten Tomatoeos and a 62 on Metacritic.
Nuff said. Anyone that is alive right now has probably seen this movie. This was one of the great original superhero movies. With a cast of stars to big to name, this movie has to excel. The X-Men are trying to stop Magneto and his brotherhood from killing a senator. It's largely centered around Wolverine, a trend that would continue on throughout the entire series. This was the mainstream superhero movie that came before the rest. It recevied an 82% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 64 on Metacritic.
1. Pitch Black
This is a movie that the critics got wrong. A sci-fi thriller starring Vin Diesel, a transport ship carrying passengers crashes on an unknown planet. Along with those passengers, the ship is carrying a highly dangerous prisoner. Unbeknownst to everyone from the ship, the planet is infested with dangerous aliens that come out during the night. This is one of Vin Diesel best performances and just a great movie in general. This is undoubtedly one of my favorite sci-fi movies next to the first 2 Aliens movies. The ending is a surprise you won't see coming. It received a 57% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 49% on Metacritic.
