Oh yes, most people think their parents are super wacky and crazy embarrassing, but you've seen nothing yet, judging by the experiences of the following 7 celebrities.
It seems that the parents of these A-listers have really gone out of their way to make the lives of their brood difficult. From damaging drug habits, to murderous tendencies, to sneaky fame grabbing schemes and attempts to steal their children's money, these people really do seem to have some of the worst parental techniques on the planet.
Take a look, and all the while do have a long hard think on whether your parents are really that bad after all...
1. Nicki Minaj
Nicki's father is an alcoholic and drug addict and when she was younger, during one of his binge drinking sessions, he almost burnt their family house down in Trinidad. The incident made the rapper's mom send her children to the US to protect them.
Speaking of her childhood, Nicki once said:
"All of my young and teenage years we lived in fear that my mother would be killed by my father. It was ridiculous. My father was violent - physically and verbally."
2. Charlize Theron
Similarly, Charlize's father also had alcohol problems and was very abuse when under the influence. When she was 15 years old, the situation got so bad that the actress's mother shot him in self-defense when he attacked her! All the while, little Charlize was upstairs in her room.
I'm sure going through such a traumatic experience made her the strong woman that she is today. No wonder, she was given the role of Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road:
3. Woody Harrelson
Recently, it was unearthed that Woody Harrelson's dad was a hit man. In the 1980s, he was convicted of assassinating a judge and died in prison in 2007.
For a kid growing up trying to learn the ways of the world, it must have been difficult having an absent father who killed people for a living as a role-model.
Ironically, Woody's role in Natural Born Killers, a movie about a psychopathic serial killer, must have mirrored some of his father's experiences. Check out the trailer here:
4. Britney Spears
Alongside putting immense pressure on her daughter to become a worldwide star, her mother, Lynne, also went out of her way to cash in on Britney's fame.
For one, she wrote a book divulging all her secrets, such as when young Britters lost her virginity. Absolutely not cool.
5. Jackie Chan
When her ex-husband was killed by a Japanese bomb, Jackie's mom was forced to abandon her children to make a living in Shanghai. She soon realized she possessed quite the knack for gambling and opium smuggling, earning her the street nickname of Big Sister.
And funnily enough, when she came head-to-head with port inspector Charles Chan, instead of running for cover, she decided to marry him. Later, Jackie was born to conquer the world with his wacky karate moves. Pretty cool, huh?
6. Lindsay Lohan
It's no wonder that Lindsay has got herself in so much trouble over the years, having problems with alcohol and carrying out more than a few stints in rehab.
In particular, the reason for her drug habit was that her dad, Michael Lohan, was a user for years. In an interview, she once even admitted:
"I was only aware of cocaine because of my dad. I was terrified of it. But I tried it because I was stubborn, stupid, and wanted to see what it was like."
What a great role-model he must have been!
And her mother, Dina Lohan, is no better herself, often getting into physical altercations with Lindsay and using her daughter's fame to become famous herself. Ouch!
7. Leighton Meester
As a baby, Leighton had far from the growing-up experience of her Gossip Girl on-screen character Blair Waldorf. In fact, she was actually born in a prison to a mother that was in jail for trafficking marijuana from Jamaica to the US.
Later in life, this woman also stole her money. When the actress found out that her mama had used the funds she sent to her brother for botox, hair extensions and plastic surgery, she was far from pleased.
Be glad your parents wouldn't do that to you!
So, next time you're moaning at your folk, consider this: Have your parents ever stolen your money to get hair extensions? Were they professional hit men, and would they tell the entire world when you popped your cherry?
Yeah, I guess yours aren't so bad after all.
