I gotta say, one of the most interesting games that I've played in recent memory is 2011's Catherine. From its breathtaking visuals to its incredibly complex and innovative puzzle design, it's a bit of a modern cult-masterpiece in my mind. Atlus took all of the collective madness that inhabits their offices and created a game where you hang around a load of sheep in a nightmare that'll kill you in real life should you die. What more do you want from a video game?!
The team that created Catherine are the same ones that are currently developing Persona 5, which is slated for a 2015 release date. We have E3 coming up very soon and we're all likely to bathe in the glory of Persona 5's beauty - but could we see Atlus even tease the existence of Catherine 2? Will they even consider developing a sequel/prequel?! Anything set within the context of Catherine's world would be something I'd have no hesitation throwing out 60 dollars for it on its release date!
Could We See Catherine 2 Get A Release Date After Persona 5?
Atlus are going to want to build up a great deal of hype for Persona 5, so it's unlikely - though not implausible - that Catherine 2 could take to the stage at E3. They're not going to want to undervalue one of their biggest franchises, if not the biggest. Therefore, I doubt they'll want everyone's attention shifted. Though perhaps at the conclusion of the show they could just shock the world and show off Catherine 2, or at least mention that they're developing it!
Catherine is one of the few games that once I think about, i generally just go back and play. It's puzzles are endlessly challenging and its world is so bizarre and stocked full of well-written characters that I can't help but lose myself in it. Don't get me wrong, I adore the Persona series and I can't wait to see what they do with Persona 5! But I like to look ahead too and it'd be a pleasure to hear the same team will be working on Catherine 2 for a future release date.
