WARNING: Possible spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 6 ahead! Proceed with caution.

Filming for Season 6 of The Walking Dead is well underway in Senoia, Georgia at the moment, meaning that thanks to fan pages like The Spoiling Dead Fans, we're being treated to a whole array of behind-the-scenes snapshots from dedicated fans who show up on set to watch the filming. One fan, by the delightful pseudonym of Ninja Pancake, hit the absolute jackpot earlier in the week when they spotted a brand new character getting ready to film!

Take a look at these snaps shared on The Spoiling Dead Fans Facebook page with the new character alongside who looks to be Danai Gurira a.k.a. Michonne:

So, who is the mystery character?

Season 6 of The Walking Dead looks set to see the group continuing to adjust to life within the Alexandria Safe-Zone, as well as also coming face-to-face with the villainous Wolves. With both of these things guaranteed to happen, it's also guaranteed that we'll meet more and more new characters, particularly many of those from the comic series. Which brings me to who this new character is rumored to be: Heath.

Who Is Heath?

Heath and Glenn in the comic series
Heath and Glenn in the comic series

Heath is a very well known and established character from the comics. The group first met him way back in issue 69, the same issue that Rick and the team reach the Alexandria Safe-Zone.

In the comics, Heath is a supply runner for Alexandria. After his former supply runner partner Scott was injured, he and Glenn begin working together. Heath proves himself as one of the more capable members of Alexandria, saving Glenn's life more than once when the two are out on their first supply run. Though he is also initially wary of Rick and his group, worried he could be another Alexander Davidson - the man who Douglas Monroe (or Deanna Monroe in the TV series) exiled from the community, he eventually realizes they're good people and assets to Alexandria.

But not only would it be timely for Heath to appear in The Walking Dead (the TV series is roughly up to issue 77 of the comics), but the similarities between the actor and Heath from the comic series are undeniable, take a look:

Despite the quality of the photo not being ideal (that's the price we pay for spoilers, folks!) you can see that the hair and the clothing is pretty much identical. Not to mention that in the photo above with the red arrow it's pretty clear to see that he is also wearing glasses.

In the comic series Heath frequently wears a jacket with a sort of hoodie or hooded vest underneath, and from the comparison photo above you can see that's exactly what the new character is wearing.

New casting supports the rumor

However, we have more than a couple of photos and comparisons to support this Heath theory. Thanks again to The Spoiling Dead Fans' sources, it has been 99% confirmed that Corey Hawkins has been signed on as a new cast member. This news was followed by the following shot of Hawkins on set in costume:

The photo looks as though Hawkins is on set, but not currently filming, which would explain the lack of jacket and glasses (which he doesn't normally wear), as well as the earphones.

It is believed that Corey Hawkins has been signed on to play a character who was called "Delvin" in a casting call put out for the show in April. However, in the TV series itself the character may still be called Heath, as The Walking Dead often put out fake names for their characters during casting calls in order to maintain surprise for the upcoming season.

These new photos and casting news are awesome updates, and I can't wait to see one of my favorite Alexandria residents finally being introduced. If Corey Hawkins doesn't turn out to be Heath (or a very similar version to the Heath of the comic series) then I will be seriously shocked, but what do you think?

The Walking Dead will return to AMC with Season 6 in October, however the brand new companion series Fear the Walking Dead will debut prior to that, likely in August.
