We have some Wan-derful news, DC fans! Furious 7 director James Wan has officially signed on to direct Aquaman for Warner Bros.
The film stars Jason Momoa and is being produced by Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder and Zack Snyder. Wan will also be supervising the script, which is being penned by Kurt Johnstad.
Warner Bros. has also released the official plot synopsis for the 2018 solo superhero flick: Aquaman, the King of the Seven Seas and the reluctant ruler of Atlantis, is caught between a surface world constantly ravaging the sea and Atlanteans looking to lash out in revolt, but is committed to protecting the entire globe.
Greg Silverman, president of creative development and worldwide production for Warner Bros. Pictures says the studio is thrilled to have Wan onboard as they continue to expand the DC Cinematic Universe. “The ‘Aquaman’ film will be a major tentpole picture for us, and James’ span of work has proven him able to take on any manner of project, bringing his incredible creative talent and unique voice to the material.”
Wan has been rumored as director of the Aquaman solo film for a few months now. He is also wanted by Sony to direct their upcoming Robotech film.
Wan most recently helmed Furious 7 over at Universal Studios, which has already grossed more than $1.5 billion at the worldwide box office. He is the latest director to be hired by Warner Bros. as they continue to expand their DC Cinematic Universe.
