[A] great, overwhelmingly-awesome experience that just solidified my feeling of "I NEED TO DO MORE OF THIS!"
-Kalouhs

For many, cosplay is a way of life, for others it's a fun challenge and a chance to meet new people, to push personal boundaries.
New to the cosplay circuit, Kalouhs is already making her mark and joining the veterans.

Comic Book Illuminati:
What's your best cosplay moment so far?

Kaluohs:
My best cosplay moment so far has to be going to MegaCon in Orlando this year. Being a noob in the cosplay world (seriously, I'm like a notch above a the casual Halloween costumer), I really appreciate the network I've started to develop in the cosplay community. I realize I'm never going to know EVERYONE, or see ALL the cool costumes, or buy ALL the best nerd toys. But, what I can do is have an awesome core group of people I see at conventions and support remotely with their fan sites. These great people (many of whom have been doing this for over a decade) have been fantastic sources for costume tips from fabrication to financing. I appreciate their patience as I continually ask, "so how do I do this?" This led me to MegaCon. Following these people, who've seemingly taken me under their wings, resulted in me networking with other artists and even meeting my boyfriend (I call that a successful weekend). It was a great, overwhelmingly-awesome experience that just solidified my feeling of "I NEED TO DO MORE OF THIS," and I can't wait for more costumes and conventions to come.

Comic Book Illuminati:
Have you been approached filmmakers?

Kaluohs:
I have not been approached by filmmakers, or approached them. :P

Comic Book Illuminati:
Have you ever been recognized out of "uniform"?

Kaluohs:
I haven't been recognized in the sense of someone looking up from their coffee at IHOP and going, "Hey! You're Kaluohs," but the anonymity is hard to keep when my main costume (the Tawdry Girl from Fifth Element) has a buzz cut and that's my normal haircut. I currently work at a college and will be teaching in the Fall and wonder if any of my students will end up finding out about my nerdy double-life.

Comic Book Illuminati:
What's your best personal nerdgasm story?

Kaluohs:
I'd have to say the coolest "fan girl" moment I had was meeting Miss Sinister at MegaCon -and be personally introduced to her- while in one of the costumes that SHE rocked before. I'm not one for putting people on pedestals and idolizing, by any means, but great credit is due where great talent is apparent.
She was taller than I expected, with a presence that demanded respect, but that also could have been the armor. It was a great opportunity to meet a cosplay heavy-hitter and have her be so complimentary and encouraging of my novice efforts!
