Disney to remake Sister Act?!
We're in a time where it seems like every second film released is a remake, a reboot or an unnecessary sequel, so it should come as no surprise that Disney is planning to remake Sister Act.
Sister Act was released in 1992 and starred Whoopi Goldberg as Deloris, a lounge singer placed in a convent to avoid a bounty placed on her head by her mob boss ex-boyfriend.
The film also starred Kathy Najimy, Wendy Makkena and Maggie Smith, who all returned for the 1993 sequel.
A musical of the film debuted in 2009 in The West End and in 2011 on Broadway, in which Whoopi Goldberg is also a producer of and for a limited time even played the role of Mother Superior.
The film will be written by Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah of Legally Blonde, 10 Things I Hate About You and She's the Man. Producer of Cinderella and upcoming Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Power Rangers, Allison Shearmur, will serve as the film's producer.
I am NOT okay with this! The Sister Act films, more so the first, are my all-time favorite movies and I just can't imagine a remake being anywhere near as good as the original.
Of course, there is the cast... Whoopi along with Kathy Najimy, Wendy Makkena, Mary Wickes and Maggie Smith just make the film what it is today and consistently make it enjoyable for me to watch over and over again.
I can't lie... I hope they cancel this like they did Tron 3!
