The first trailer for Ridley Scott's highly anticipated THE MARTIAN just dropped online and sees Matt Damon as Astronaut Mark Watney, a crew member who is stranded on Mars after a freak storm and presumed dead my his team and Earth.

Ridley Scott, once one of cinemas greatest minds has been having a rather rough streak as of late. I enjoyed Robin Hood and Prometheus, but both The Counsellor and Exodus: Gods & Kings were two of the filmmakers weakest films.

Ridley Scott is best known for his Science Fiction films, both Alien and Blade Runner are rightfully regarded as cinematic classics. Could The Martian be a return to form?

Matt Damon (The Bourne Trilogy, Interstellar) stars as Mark Watney, an astronaut part of a crew sent by Nasa to touch down on Mars and be the first humans in history on the red planet. His crew consists of Kate Mara (Fantastic Four), Jessica Chastain (Interstellar), Sebastian Stan (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), Donald Glover (Magic Mike XXL) and Michael Pena (Ant-Man).

After an unexpected storm hits the planet, the crew are forced to abandon their mission and leave. During the evacuation, Watney is left behind and is presumed dead. Watney must fight to survive the conditions of the planet, he must grow a four year supply of food and try to contact Nasa to return to Mars to save him. When the team receives Mark's distress signal, they go against Nasa's commands and go on a rescue mission for their friend.

Ridley Scott is never one to disappoint when it comes to visuals, and like most of his films, The Martian looks beautiful. The cast is one of the best Scott has ever assembled and the story looks truly quite great.

Matt Damon is one of the best in the business, he's an incredible actor and I think he's going to crush this role. I have complete faith in all of the actors here and the trailer got me very excited, but as this is a Ridley Scott film, I am still quite skeptical.

Also released yesterday was a Viral marketing teaser introducing you to the crew of the Hermes spacecraft.
