Bill Dubuque has penned the project, completing the screenplay for Gavin O'Connor to direct it. Bill Dubuque has two written projects noted on IMDB, the first being "The Judge" (2014) starring Robert Downey Jr and Robert Duvall. "The Judge" was a good film, nothing too spectacular but I don't think the story was necessarily a very reaching one. If "The Accountant" ends up a positive project, having a solid director and a very capable cast, Dubuque will be another name to watch out for.
There's no official synopsis for the action/thriller yet but so far the story description is limited to: "A forensic accountant un-cooks the books for illicit clients." It's also been reported that this forensic accountant also works as a lethal assassin on the side.
Ben Affleck has become increasingly impressive as an actor and he's coming off the hit film "Gone Girl" last year. His career took a gigantic leap once he crossed over into directing "Gone Baby Gone" in 2007. His 3 full length features as a director include: "Gone Baby Gone" (2007), "The Town" (2010), and "Argo" (2012), all of which were great films. Perhaps the perspective of directing actors has shaped a finer actor in himself. The film community is highly anticipating his portrayal as Batman in "[Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice](tag:711870)" due in 2016.
Anna Kendrick will be the lead actress, who I was most impressed with in "Up in the Air" (2009). Also in "Up in the Air", J.K. Simmons was cast in "The Accountant", and after seeing him in "Whiplash" last year, I want more of THAT J.K. Simmons.
The screenplay for the film was featured in 2011's Blacklist; a list of good unmade scripts. However, the one concern I see so far is in that I'm not familiar with many of the films or didn't care very much for the films produced by Electric City Entertainment and/or Zero Gravity Management, the production companies attached to this film.
This remains to be one of my anticipated films of 2016 for many reasons, and Ben Affleck's evolution as an actor has really made me pay close attention to when his next projects arrive.
Gavin O'Connor, directing the film, has directed: "Miracle", often cited as the only hockey movie that matters, and was one of Kurt Russell's finest and more unique performances. O'Connor also wrote, directed, and produced "Warrior" (2011), starring Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton, two recent Hollywood rock stars. O'Connor also directed the pilot episode of the critically acclaimed series "The Americans". "The Americans" and "The Accountant" have a similar theme, people playing make-believe lives while their real life is far more violent.
O'Connor has also found himself a fantastic partner in Seamus McGarvey as his cinematographer, who has worked on many awesome films like: "Atonement" (2007), "Avengers" (2012), and "Godzilla" (2014)!
The film is set for January 29, helping make 2016 a more and more anticipated year in film.
