Recently I was able to attend ConCarolina's as press. It was truly a great experience. Filled with great guests and great panels, my weekend was a full plate of goodness. I arrived at the Embassy Suites hotel in Concord,NC and a giant Frankenstein greeted me as made my way around the floor. I was off to find the room that held my press pass. And after walking around the whole con twice, I found the hidden room that held my press pass.
Fridays, everyone was spread out working hard to get their posters and materials out. I ended up running into a good friend of mine, JC Kingsley who was doing a panel for his web series Asylum: The Lost Interrogations . I stopped by his wonderful showing of the web series. Got a few pictures of the group. Then I headed to the bar to grab some special "Pega Punch". Spent some time on the patio chit chating with creators and con goers. Friday was a short day for me. I had to head back to Charlotte to pick up my cohost for our Saturday coverage.
Saturday morning, It was time for my cohost Amie Achenbach and I to head back to the con. We grabbed as much energy producing products from the gas station and were on our way. The second we got there, people were already begging Amie for some pictures. She had come dressed in Cosplay for the first time ever as Harley Quinn.
Inside the doors of those hallowed halls we ran around like children in a candy shop. We decided to meet back up with JC Kingsley and his wive and attended some amazing panels. One such panel was an intro to Costuming. Some amazing cosplay creators described methods to creating cosplay. Next up was a surviving the zombie Apocalypse panel. Then we had to make it to the other side of the con to reach our other friends premier of Doctor Who: Lucky 13.
We watched Doctor Who: Lucky 13 which was a great laugh. A parody of Doctor Who set in America with the first American Doctor. We caught up with John Dondero and Garret Mooneyhan for an audio interview for my podcast. As Saturday continued on, so did my consumption of alcohol. I ended up dancing with some citizens of Mad Max and watched Aquaman get inducted in the Justice League. Amie and I, conquered Saturday and were ready to go hit the hay.
Sunday was our day to see the celebrities. After having a morning cigarette and swapping stories with fellow press. One such story being about the mystery pooper who pooped on the dealer floor. We rushed over to see the Joel Hodgson panel who is most famous for being in Mystery Science Theater 3000. After that we were on our way to a showing of The Butterfly Circus which concluded with a q&a from the amazing Doug Jones. Seeing Doug Jones explaining how he got into character had me cracking up. After the panel, my cohost tracked him down and we got to talk to Doug Jones for a bit. He gave us hugs and offered to take a picture with us for free. Which we thought was pretty awesome.
ConCarolinas was a blast and I can't wait to go back next year. From panels to people, this place exemplified what cons are about. Having fun! I have more pictures to show you and you know what they say, a picture is worth 1000 words. So I will stop writing and let my pictures tell the rest of the story:
