HAPPY BIRTHDAY Natalie Portman!
Born Natalie Hershlag, Natalie Portman was born on the 9th of June 1981 in Jerusalem, Israel.
At age 11, Portman was discovered in a pizza parlour by an agent and was pushed towards a career in modelling but she decided that she would rather have a career in acting instead.
Aside from having an acting career, Natalie has taken time away to pursue an education; graduated with honours, even missing the premiere of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace so she could study for her high school final exams and then went on to graduate from Harvard University with an A.B. degree in psychology in 2003
"I don't care if [college] ruins my career, I'd rather be smart than a movie star."
Portman told the New York Post.
In the spring of 2004, Natalie travelled to Israel to take graduate courses at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and was a guest lecturer for course in terrorism and counterterrorism at Columbia University in 2006.
As a student in both high school and college, Portman has co-authored research papers including some that were published in scientific journals.
In 1994, Portman had her first movie role in Léon: The Professional alongside Jean Reno and Gary Oldman before going on to star in Heat, Beautiful Girls, Everyone Says I Love You, Mars Attacks!, Star Wars: Episodes 1-3, Anywhere But Here, Cold Mountain, Garden State, Closer, Paris, je t'aime, Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, Brothers, Black Swan, No Strings Attached, Your Highness, Thor and Thor: Dark World.
Portman originally turned down the role of Ann August in the film Anywhere But Here because the love scene required nudity but Susan Sarandon, who had co-star approval, said the she couldn't continue without Portman and so the script was re-written without the scene and she accepted.
After Emily Blunt dropped out, Portman was considered for the role of Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in Iron Man 2 and was also considered for the role of Selina Kyle/Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises.
The winner of countless awards, Natalie holds the record for third-largest "Best Actress" award sweep for her role as Nina Sayers in Black Swan winning a whopping 38 awards! Cate Blanchett comes in at number one with her performance as Jasmine French in Blue Jasmine (41) and Helen Mirren at number two for her performance as Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen (40).
For one of my all time favourite actresses with such a brilliant career, it was quite hard not to just list all of her films as my favourites!
Now here are my Top 2 Natalie Portman roles (if you hadn't guessed by the titles omitted from the above lists!).
WHERE THE HEART IS (2000)
I don't know what it is about this movie but I love it!
Aside from Natalie, it has such a stellar cast including Ashley Judd, Stockard Channing, Joan Cusack, Keith David and Sally Field.
It's just a beautiful, heartwarming and funny film.
V FOR VENDETTA (2005)
This film is amazing! Probably in my Top 10 of all time!
I love it and can watch it over and over again.
Another film with a brilliant cast of some of the best in British acting with an awesome mix of action and drama that can keep me entertained every time I watch it!
Of course you can't ignore the AWESOME Saturday Night Live Digital Short she was apart of when she hosted the show back in 2006!
