He's coming, everybody!
Moviepilot author Tim Dunn (who's article I got the picture from) can jump for joy, because Jon Bernthal (Shane Walsh from The Walking Dead) is set to play the fan favorite PUNISHER in Daredevil Season 2!
In Daredevil's next season we will see a vigilante "who aims to clean up New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen by any means necessary, no matter how lethal the results." Here is what Marvel's Head of Television, Jeph Loeb (who is also notable for writing some fantastic Batman back in the day, and who wrote an amazing take on the Man Without Fear's origin which I highly recommend you read, called Daredevil: Yellow) had to say:
“Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences. Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”
Bernthal is also set to appear in an upcoming thriller called The Accountant. He is one of the many people from Daredevil's cast of characters to be coming (or rumored to be coming) in Season 2, like the rumored Elektra, the (sort of?) confirmed Bullseye, and possibly Mr. Fear and Mysterio (heck yeah!). This is what Bernthal tweeted afterwards:
It is fantastic to see one of my favorite Marvel characters finally come back after being in limbo for years. I really hope Ghost Rider gets some love in the Netflix setting as well. And Blade too, of course. I think what Marvel is doing with these characters is fantastic. People may be skeptical about Jessica Jones (which recently dropped the "AKA" from its title) and Luke Cage (not Iron Fist. After Daredevil? Everyone knows that will be good!), but they shouldn't be. After what Marvel did with Daredevil, I am almost 100% sure those other shows will be completely fantastic. And Marvel, if this is how well you cast: give us a Punisher show with Steven S. DeKnight back and directing!
Daredevil and Punisher
Daredevil and Punisher were never really on the best terms in comics. Why? Because Punisher is a very special case. In fact, the show's Facebook page just uploaded a new logo:
He isn't a hero by any means, nor is he a villain. He is the definitive anti-hero, and it would be fantastic to see that next year. With the universe the first season has built, it will be utterly mind-blowing to see our favorite Frank Castle taking on villains as he sees fit. And please, continue from that Iron Man 3 Blu-Ray tease, Marvel!
The Street Level Marvel Universe is all coming together, and, one day, we might see this!
Marvel Knights, baby!
Oh wait, we're already getting this:
Why not both?
I can't wait to see Bernthal play the character, and I think this is interesting, as everyone was truly speculating that the next season was going to focus on Bullseye/Elektra. Seems we were wrong, and THE PUNISHER is going to be a major character in the next season.
Are you guys excited to see Bernthal play THE PUNISHER?
