Hey y'all! So a while back I did a opening titles for the anticipated American Horror Story Season 5 - Hotel. If you want to read that article you can click here.

So back in February, I wanted to make an opening titles just for fun as I am a fan of American Horror Story (AHS) and it sounds fun to do. On February 25th, I woke up and just went to school and then I heard it. My friend mentioned to me "Hey, Lady Gaga will be in some TV show." I did not think much of it at that time until I went online and went on with my usual research for AHS. When I watched the video with Gaga in it and I went gaga.

You see, previously I build my opening titles on the theory of Operation Top Hat. You can read more about Operation Top Hat here. I just scraped everything I had previously and just dumped them in the bin. I came up with the first version of the opening titles and here is the first version of the video.

I will not explain much on the elements in this article. If you are interested you can go see my previous article. After I post it online, I received criticisms (mainly spelling error, sorry kathy) and I felt like I can do a better job. So I embark on a new journey.

I actually have been procrastinating with this project as I started on April, it took me one day to finish the video. Haha one day.

Without further adieu, the main dish ladies and gentlemen.

Let me take you on a journey now and answer the details of the video.

So since the theme is about Hotel, I researched on haunting of hotel. A few famous hotel came up like the crescent hotel and the Cecil hotel. Now Cecil hotel is notable for the death of Elisa Lam, what made it famous was that the security footage of Elisa walking in and out of a malfunctioned elevator became viral. You might not understand why but watch this and maybe you'll know why its viral.

There were also creepy pastas about hotels and one notably famous one was White with Red. The story goes like this.

A man went to a hotel and walked up to the front desk to check in. The woman at the desk gave him his key and told him that on the way to his room, there was a door with no number that was locked and no one was allowed in there. She explained that it was a storeroom, and that it was out of bounds. She reminded him of this several times before allowing him upstairs. So he followed the instructions of the woman at the front desk, going straight to his room, and going to bed.
However, the insistence of the woman had piqued his curiosity, so the next night he walked down the hall to the door and tried the handle. Sure enough it was locked. He bent down and looked through the wide keyhole. Cold air passed through it, chilling his eye. What he saw was a hotel bedroom, like his, and in the corner was a woman whose skin was incredibly pale. She was leaning her head against the wall, facing away from the door. He stared in confusion for a while. Was this a celebrity? The owner's daughter? He almost knocked on the door, out of curiosity but decided not to.
As he was still looking, the woman turned sharply and he jumped back from the door, hoping she would not suspect he had been spying on her. He crept away from the door and walked back to his room. The next day, he returned to the door and looked through the wide keyhole. This time, all he saw was redness. He couldn't make anything out besides a distinct red color, unmoving. Perhaps the inhabitants of the room knew he was spying the night before, and had blocked the keyhole with something red. He felt embarrassed that he had made the woman so uncomfortable, and hoped she had not made a complaint with the woman on the front desk.
At this point he decided to consult her for more information. She sighed and said, "Did you look through the keyhole?"
The man told her that he had and she said, "Well, I might as well tell you the story of what happened in that room. A long time ago, a man murdered his wife in there, and we find that even now, whoever stays there gets very uncomfortable. But these people were not ordinary. They were white all over, except for their eyes, which were red."

I also researched for the possible cast members that would appear for Season 5. The order of the cast also plays a role as the names at the front will normally have more screen time. I based the order on different articles on the internet. Compared to the previous opening I did, I did not care for who are the cast but this time I can say I did.

Btw, the font I used is Hill House. It is the closest font that is free on the internet. There's a way to tell the fakes and the real. if you're observant you may know...

After Googling all those it's time to gather the footage. The footage that I gathered for the video were,

  • The surveillance tape of Cecil Hotel
  • White with Red, a short film by Brandon Christensen
  • Hysteria music video, by Muse
  • The Perfect Night, by Blackbox TV
  • Going Down, by Blackbox TV
  • A video of The Twilight Zone, Tower of Terror attraction

As you can see all the main footage have a common theme, Hotel. As you can see I admire Blackbox TV with their short horror films and those two film fits the theme perfectly.

I edited the whole video in Adobe After Effects. Unlike the previous opening I did, I went for a more traditional opening title. This opening title is style is inspired from AHS Season 2, Asylum.

With all that in mind, do you want to re watch the opening?

So that is it! I can't wait to see what will the opening titles look like for AHS 5.

Which AHS Season do you like the most? Leave it in the comments below!
