The first episode of one of my favorite shows of all time - One Tree Hill, aired on the 23th of September, 2003. Nine seasons and 187 episodes later the show wrapped up in 2012 with a glorious finale.
However, if you are still nostalgic about Tree Hill and its awesome characters have a look at what the actors who played them are up to now and how much have they've changed since the show's first season:
Nathan Scott (played by James Lafferty)
What he is up to now: At the beginning of the series, Nathan was a typical high school jock who had a penchant for getting involved in bad situations. He eventually fell in love in Haley, married her and also accepted his half brother Lucas. After playing in the NBA, being kidnapped abroad and struggling with some marital problems, Nathan finally earned his happy ending as a sports agent in Tree Hill with Haley and their two kids.
Lafferty was one of the few cast members along with Sophia Bush, Bethany Joy Lenz and Lee Noris to be a series regular over all of the show's nine seasons. Since One Tree Hill's ninth season aired, he has appeared in the TV series Crisis (2014), as well as the films Lost on Purpose, (2013) and Oculus (2013).
Haley James Scott (played by Bethany Joy Lenz)
What she is up to now: Haley was one of the smartest, quirkiest and most responsible characters on the show. The best friend of Lucas and eventually wife of his half brother Nathan (they got married while still in high school) and had two children. Furthermore, by the end of the series Haley was successfully balancing managing her own label, Caren's cafe, and family life .
Since the last season of OTH, Lenz has appeared in several TV series such as: Dexter (2006-2013), and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (2000-2015), as well as working on releasing her first album. In 2016 she will star in the movie Extortion with Frank Grillo. Moreover, in 2012 she divorced Michael Galeotti and since December of the same year she has been dating Wes Ramsey.
Lucas Scott (played by Chad Michael Murray)
What he is up to now: Lucas remains my favorite OTH character due to his good-hearted nature (and his amazing quotes). On the flipside, the idol of teenage girls in the 2000s (mainly due to the popularity of OTH but also because of his roles in Freaky Friday (2003), A Cinderella Story (2004) and House of Wax (2005) - Chad Michael Murray has certainly been aging well since he debuted in his breakout role as Lucas Scott at the age of 22. After not returning to the show for its seventh season (he claimed that the producers did not want him back because they wanted to save money) he has starred in films such as Fruitvale Station (2013), Cavemen (2013), Left Behind (2014) (I am pretty sure that he would like to forget this one), and Other People's Children (2014).
He has also appeared in TV series such as Chosen (2013– ) and Agent Carter (2015-) and in January this year it was announced that Murray and his Chosen co-star Sarah Roemer had married. Less than two weeks ago (on the 31st of May) they announced the birth of their first child - a son, so huge congratulations to this celebrity couple on this amazing occasion!
Brooke Davis (played by Sophia Bush)
What she is up to now: Brooke Davis was also one of my most favorite characters on the show and that was thanks to the amazing Sophia Bush. After One Tree Hill wrapped up, she has starred in other TV shows such as Chicago Fire (2013-), Chicago PD (2014-) and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2014-).
Unfortunately, she has not been as successful in her personal life when compared to her professional one. After her short-lived marriage to Chad Michael Murray and her relationships to other OTH co-stars James Lafferty and Austin Nichols, she dated Dan Fredinburg, a program manager for Google who passed away, after he suffered an injury while climbing Everest. Most recently she dated Jesse Lee Soffer, but this week it was confirmed that the couple have split up. However, don't you worry Sophia, you are a wonderful person and actress and your prince will come (but it probably won't be one of your co-stars).
Peyton Sawyer (played by Hilarie Burton)
What she is up to now: In May 2009, The CW announced Burton would not be returning for the show's seventh season based on her own decision not to return, contrary to rumors she left due to salary issues. After her departure from One Tree Hill she has starred as Sara Ellis on White Collar (2009-2014); and in 2013, she had a recurring role as Dr. Lauren Boswell on Grey's Anatomy (2005-).
In 2014 she married Grey's Anatomy (2005-), Supernatural (2005-) and Watchmen (2009) star - Jeffrey Dean Morgan, with whom she has a son called Augustus, who was born in 2010.
Dan Scott (played by Paul Johansson)
What he is up to now: Dan Scott was definitely one of the most interesting and complex characters in One Tree Hill - he definitely did some horrendous deeds, but his road to redemption in a season was one of the best storylines of the whole series.
Since the series wrapped up, Johansson's career has appeared in the films Kid Cannabis (2014) and Dear Eleanor (2014), as well as the TV Series Beauty and the Beast (2012-) and the last season of Mad Men (2007-2015).
Skills Taylor (played by Antwon Tanner)
What he is up to now: Skills was one of the funniest and most iconic supporting characters in the history of One Tree Hill, this is why he was a consistent part of the show until the very end.
On the other hand, Antwon Tanner has been doing considerably well after OTH ended. He has had a few guest roles on TV as well as the big screen such as in From The Days Forward (2012), Shifting Gears (2014), Black Jesus (2014-) and he will also feature in the films Fade Away (2015) and Checkmate (2015).
Karen Roe (played by Moira Kelly)
What she is up to now: Before appearing on One Tree Hill as the brave and lovable Karen (the mother of Lucas), Kelly was most known for her memorable performance as Nala in The Lion King (1994) and The Lion King II: Simba's Pride (1998).
Since she last appeared on OTH, she has made guest appearances in TV shows such as Heroes (2006-2010), Law & Order (1990-2010), and Numb3rs (2005-2010). Kelly has also appeared in the films A Smile as Big as the Moon (2012) and Taken Back: Finding Haley (2012).
Mouth McFadden (played by Lee Norris)
What he is up to now: Mouth was one of the smartest and most lively characters on the show. However, since the ninth season of One Tree Hill finished, Lee Norris has not played many new characters. He had a small role in David Fincher's Gone Girl (2014) and he also reprised his role as Minkus in the Boy Meets World (1993-2000) spin-off series Girl Meets World (2014-).
Keith Scott (played by Craig Sheffer)
What he is up to now: We all know how Keith's life tragically ended, however there are many other things that should be mentioned about him apart from his demise; although he was not the biological father of Lucas he loved him like his old son and he also had strong romantic feelings towards Karen. Overall, Keith was one of the most beloved characters due to the fact that he had a heart of gold.
On the other hand, Craig Sheffer has been pretty active since last appearing on OTH in 2007 (he made a brief, but heartbreaking comeback in the ninth season). Sheffer has guest starred in several TV shows such as: Criminal Minds (2005-), The Mentalist (2008-2015) and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (2000-), as well as films like Love Lies Bleeding (2008).
Coach Whitey Durham (played by Barry Corbin)
What he is up to now: It is a real shame that Whitey was not a part of the series finale. One of the main reasons for this might be that Barry Corbin is an extremely productive and busy actor.
Some of his most notable post One Tree Hill roles include appearances on The Closer (2005-2012), Suit Up (2012-), Modern Family (2009-) and Anger Management (2012-2014).
Deb Scott (played by Barbara Alyn Woods)
What she is up to now: In One Tree Hill Allyn-Woods played Deb Scott - Nathan's dysfunctional, but also caring mother, who often got herself mixed up in weird situations.
Since she last appeared on OTH, Allyn-Woods isn't up to very much. She has only had three acting credits since then - the TV series The Goldbergs (2013-) and the movies Taste It: A Comedy About the Recession (2012) and Death Clique (2014).
