Throughout the history of the industry, we've seen so many IPs hop from developer to developer in order to find a good home. We've seen the likes of Obsidian take on a massive franchise with Fallout: New Vegas, and even 2K Marin for the sequel to Irrational Games' Bioshock. Some developers have a clear trademark feel and style, but I don't think there's another developer out there with a more distinctive approach to game development than Rockstar.

Perhaps Ubisoft are arguably close, in that the Assassin's Creed games, the Far Cry series and Watch Dogs are saturated with tropes that we associate with the company. But imagine this situation - GTA 6 is to be developed by someone other than Rockstar. If I said that Assassin's Creed was to be taken over by Avalanche or something like that - no one would really mind. In fact, they might give the series the breath of fresh air it so desperately needs. But Rockstar are a different company, and no one could make GTA 6 like they will.

If Rockstar Didn't Develop GTA 6, Who Would You Get to Replace Them?

But in the hypothetical situation that it isn't developed by Rockstar, who could replace them? Their open world design is famous throughout the world and they've turned the Grand Theft Auto franchise into one of the biggest the video game industry has ever seen. Rockstar and Grand Theft Auto go hand in hand. But would some other developer out there give GTA 6 a new perspective you'd like to see? Or is it simply a matter of picking the developer you don't think would completely destroy the series' identity?

Personally, I don't really know who I'd elect to develop GTA 6 in Rockstar's place. From Software and Bethesda Studios are probably two of my favourite companies working in the industry today, but I can't see Bethesda's choice elements or From's insane difficulty entering such a popular franchise. They could give it a try, but it'd be very weird.

I'd nearly offer up the task to the Creative Assembly, seeing as they did such a fantastic job of making Alien: Isolation so true to its source. They're an excellent developer who've worked on massive games - perhaps an open world for GTA 6 would be something they could tackle. Of course this is all just hypothetical nonsense, but I'm intrigued to see what developers you guys have faith in!

So be sure to let us know in the comments who you'd elect to develop GTA 6 in Rockstar's absence. Do you think creative Assembly would do a good job? Or maybe Valve or Naughty Dog woud be more true to the identity of the Grand Theft Auto brand name? Let us know!
