You read that right! The title is not a typo folks. I've already written an article about how (Prime) Superman is unstoppable. But now, I'd like to ponder some of the characters from the MARVEL Universe that I think would have a shot at taking down the Man of Steel. You guys ready? Let's get into it!
1. Gladiator (Kallark)
Starting this list, is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe. Kallark is a ferociously proud gladiator who is leader of the Imperial Guard, a multi-ethnic group of super-powered alien beings who act as enforcers of the law of the Shi'ar Empire. He is mostly known to X-Men fans as the one who would have defeated the team of mutants, if it wasn't for a band of interstellar freebooters named the Starjammers who turned the tide of battle in the X-Men's favor.
Even though this gladiator is stronger than the Juggernaut, Thor, and even Hulk, his power seems limited because of the lack of confidence in himself. That would be his downfall against Supes, but I believe he could take him down. Maybe 1 out of 3? Because this guy is tough. Just like Big Boy Blue, Kallark has heat vision, and frost breath. Kallark.. Clark. Coincidence...? Yes. Anyways, the gladiator is faster than the speed of light, is able to withstand a supernova; he has superhuman stamina and durability, and has a healing factor! His strength also gives him the power to shatter an entire planet. Gladiator could definitely defeat Superman.
2. Silver Surfer
You guys just sighed, didn't you? That's okay, I expected it (; First, I want to say: has anyone else thought about how funny it is that this guy is a surfer and his last name is Radd? Anyone? Okay. Well, The Silver Surfer wields the Power Cosmic, which grants him superhuman strength, endurance, and senses as well as the ability to absorb and manipulate the universe's ambient energy. He is able to travel at the speed of light, and has been known to time travel, even being able to take others with him. His abilities are to infinity and beyond, so let's talk about the good stuff.
The Surfer can project energy powerful enough to destroy planets, and strong enough to create black holes. He can utilize the Power Cosmic to augment his superhuman strength to indeterminate levels. Superman isn't the only one with incalculable strength! Also as you all probably know, his board is psionically linked with his mind, allowing it to move in response to his mental commands, wether or not he is in physical contact with it. Even if the board is damaged or destroyed, the Surfer can repair it or recreate it with little effort. The board is even capable of absorbing and imprisoning other beings, but not indefinitely. Silver Surfer can cast illusions, create interdimensional portals to microverses, and even phase through solid matter. Did I not mention that he's stronger than the Hulk? The Surfer can also detect objects and concentrations of energy lightyears away, so he'd see Superman coming before he could say "A surf board? Are you kidding me?"
The mad, mother lovin' Titan. Well he didn't actually love his mother... he killed her. So yeah. Chins has become the strongest out of all of the other Titanian Eternals through bionic implementation, long hours of meditation, and augmentation of his Eternal strength and powers. Growing in power, Thanos also grew in ambition and desire for conquest, as death traveled alongside him every step of the way. His powers are like those of the Eternals but amplified to a higher degree due to augmentation, mysticism, and power bestowed by the abstract entity, Death. Demonstrating insane superhuman strength, durability, and stamina, he is able to absorb and project vast quantities of cosmic energy, and is capable of telekineses, telepathy, and matter manipulation. Aside from those things, Thanos is a proficient hand-to-hand combatant, as well as an extremely advanced scientific genius. Also, being a master strategist would give him a slight upper hand over Superman. With or without the infinity gauntlet, I believe Thanos to be powerful enough to best the Man of Steel.
Also known as En Sabah Nur, Apocalypse has earned his reputation as not only one of the most powerful mutants, but one of the most powerful beings in the entire Marvel Universe. I'll probably say that about everyone on this list because well... it's true! He was the first living being on Earth to posses the X gene, being the first, but definitely not the last of his kind. Apocalypse has a variety of superhuman abilities that were further augmented over the years, thanks to the Celestial technology that he was able to get his hands on. He has complete control over the molecules in his body, allowing him to alter his form as it suits him, such as allowing his body to become extremely malleable and flexible, being able to change size, enhance his physical abilities, transform his limbs into weapons, wings, jets, rocket launchers, you name it.
He can regenerate from fatal injury, adapt his body to withstand any hostile environment, or any disease. ALSO he can give himself virtually any physical superhuman power. Apocalypse has even shown abilities of telepathy and telekinesis. Aside from his superpowers and immortality, he is a scientific genius. I think you're mad if you don't think this guy can defeat Superman (;
Sentry is an outstandingly powerful being from Earth who gained his powers from a special serum that accelerate his molecules an instant ahead of the current timeline. This serum was designed to be 100,000 times stronger than the original super soldier serum, and was modified by Weapon X. Now what kind of powers does he have? Well for starters, his power is of one million exploding suns. Yes, Superman can withstand supernovas to the head, but Sentry isn't all solar power. He has had a wonderfully positive impact on the Marvel Universe and its heroes, as well as a horridly negative one; we have the void to thank for that. For those that don't know, The Void...
The Void is basically the black and destructive counterforce and negative aspects of Sentry. It is a dark force that tries to control him, causing Sentry to fight a constant inner battle. Because of these psychological problems, Sentry has killed many, many people in the Marvel Universe. He's ripped Loki in half, as well as Carnage, and Ares. He decapitated Cap *sobs*, murdered Magneto, Venom, Ms. Marvel, Dr. Doom, Namor, and many more. He has over class 100 strength making him stronger than Thor, and even has telepathic abilities dwarfing those of Professor Xavier's who is believed to be the strongest telepath on Earth. Iron Man even concluded that he has no physical weakness! Sentry fought Galactus to a stand still, was even able to sooth the Hulk with his powers, and has senses that succeed those of Superman. Yeah I said it. He can hear the heartbeat of a butterfly in Africa while in New York. As The Void or as the Golden Guardian, Sentry could definitely defeat The Man of Steel. What a battle that would be.
6. The Incredible Hulk
Now I know this debate has been going on for quite awhile. Let's not get crazy guys and gals. I mean just like Superman, The Hulk has limitless strength. As Savage Hulk, he turned the wrecking ball of Thunderball into dust, and knocked him out in a single blow. He beat the God of Thunder within an inch of his life! The Hulk even snatched The Silver Surfer's board out of mid-air, as well as single handedly overpowering the Avengers. Remember the Destroyer from Thor? Hulk physically matched it and briefly overpowered it, as well as blocked its energy blasts with his bare hands. There are just so many feats of the Hulk to mention. Apocalypse has even said that The Unleashed Hulk's power can challenge if not overcome those of the Celestials themselves.
Right?! Now World Breaker Hulk is nothing to mess with. As WBH he broke the world with mere footsteps. Lol... I'm still laughing at that picture of the cat. Anyways, he defeated the Avengers, Black Bolt, The Fantastic Four, Doctor Strange, and even The Golden Guardian, Sentry.
Yes. Familiar with the power boosted Bi-Beast and Wendigo? Hulk overpowered those guys too, as well as lift up a good chunk of Las Vegas. *wipes sweat from forehead* At one point, Hulk was a herald of Galactus. That's a pretty big deal. He even defeated Armageddon, who was able to defeat The Silver Surfer by using his own cosmic energy against him. During his World War rampage, The Hulk said he was only holding back. If you aren't familiar with that, I suggest you look it up, friend! Alright, 'nuff said. I could go on all day about how strong the Hulk is and how he can beat Superman. Let me *heavy breathing* calm down. To make a short story long, all of the things I just said can be combined into one reason (that's how many amazing feats he's had) why he can defeat the boy in blue.
You might be thinking "Are you serious? This guy?! I've never even heard of this guy!" Well neither had I, until yesterday. Runner is one of the Elders of the Universe. He's a traveler and explorer who has lived for billions of years. Fun Fact: Runner was once converted into energy to be consumed by Galactus, but caused him "cosmic indigestion" from within until he was forced out of him by Master Order and Lord Chaos. Runner is faster than any other speed demons in the Marvel Universe.
According to Wiki: "He possesses the Power Primordial, which consists of cosmic energies left over from the Big Bang. He also possesses a cosmic-enhanced life force which grants him a variety of superhuman traits, which include augmentation of his physical attributes and senses, a virtually immortal body, immunity to aging and disease, and imperviousness to conventional injury through regeneration. The Runner can also utilize his cosmic life force for a variety of effects, including the projection of powerful energy blasts from his head, and the transformation and rearrangement of matter on a planetary scale. The Runner's body has developed to survive unaided in space with no need for food, air or water." (Think he poops?... nevermind.) "He is virtually indestructible and his durability rivals that of the Silver Surfer. He has the ability to stimulate the pleasure centers of beings around him, allowing him to influence the emotions of others and causing them to "feel good" in his presence even if he has wronged or betrayed them; this attribute may not be under his conscious control." Not to mention, he is able to defeat beings who have a higher power level than he does. Another reason why he can beat the blue boy scout.
Galactus was created during the union of the Sentience of the previous universe, before the big bang. A herald once described him as "the physical metamorphosed embodiment of the cosmos." Galactus considers himself a higher being (no argument there) who maintains his existence by snacking on worlds with the potential to sustain life. Man's gotta eat.
Galactus wields the Power Cosmic, which he shares portions of with his heralds. He can use it to have nearly any effect he desires, includiiiingg *inhales deeply* size alteration, transmutation of matter, the teleportation of objects across space, the creation of force fields and interdimensional portals, telepathy, telekinesis, universal cosmic awareness, the creation of LIFE, resurrection, the manipulation of souls, memories, and emotions, recreating dead worlds in every detail (including utterly convincing illusions of their entire populations) and energy projection. *heavy breathing* Phew! That was a mouthful. Right Galactus?
Okay, that's enough. Now to add to all of that, Galactus was able to defeat one of the Celestials. For those of you that don't know, the Celestials are some of the oldest and powerful entities in the Marvel Universe. If Galactus can take one of those bad boys down, why couldn't he take down Superman? Trick question... he could (;
9. Phoenix Force
According to Marvel Wiki: "The Phoenix Force is one of the oldest cosmic entities in the Marvel Universe. The Phoenix Force is an immortal and indestructible manifestation of the prime universal force of life." Wow. "It is the nexus of all psionic energy which does, has, and ever will exist in all realities of the Omniverse, the Guardian of Creation, and a de-facto guardian of the M'Kraan Crystal. It is the most feared being in the universe - having the power to cut and grow any part of the universe, as well as destroy it entirely, which is part of the Phoenix's purpose: 'The Judgement of the Phoenix': to burn away what doesn't work."
My oh my. The Phoenix traveled the cosmos as a formless mass of energy, until it traveled to Earth and met a magician named Feron, who worshipped the legendary Phoenix. The magicians daydreams prompted the Phoenix to take the firebird form it has today. Superman. Prepare to die.
Alright guys, it was time for lunch about an hour ago, so let's wrap this up (;
Let me be clear that I have respect for Superman, and in no way am I saying that he doesn't stand a chance against these characters. I believe he is able to defeat them, as much as I believe that they are able to defeat him. Now I know for a FACT that there are more Marvel characters to be added to this list of Marvel Characters That Could Defeat Superman. Maybe I'll make a part 2... or maybe I'll just leave that up to you lovely people (:
As always, thanks for reading guys, and please share your thoughts in the comments below. I'd love to hear 'em.
