With casting for The Martian as always the most important factor in picking the right actor is time! A casting is, after getting the script right, the most significantly important element to protect yourself. Any casting takes a while...

My favorite memory of Donald: He literally fell on his ass on the first take, he popped up immediately, I never said cut and that's the take that we used. That's a creative pro! It was so spontaneous; it was real. He fit greatly into this wonderful team/ensemble.

My advice for any young talent is to never say never, stick with what you believe in, and above all, have stamina! If you can exhaust everybody else... you win! :)

In five years from now, Donald can go as big as it can go, both as a performer, singer, writer, and as an actor.

Sir Ridley Scott is a film director and producer with a career spanning 50 years in Hollywood. His upcoming film, The Martian, is based on the bestselling novel by Andy Weir and stars Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kate Mara, Kristen Wiig, Sean Bean, and Donald Glover.

Donald Glover is a Swiss army knife of talent: He writes, acts, raps, sings, produces records, and does stand-up comedy. He's best known from his role as Troy Barnes on Community, as well as his rap alter ego, Childish Gambino. He'll next be appearing in Ridley Scott's The Martian, in theaters on November 25th.
