Considering the huge role Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) plays in the Avengers films, it's pretty surprising that her character is so widely overlooked for merchandising purposes.

After facing backlash since the release of The Avengers back in 2012, Marvel is finally responding to the complaints that there isn't enough representation of Black Widow in the Avengers merchandise.

That isn't to say that no merchandise of her exists, but that Marvel's line is somewhat lacking her presence. For instance, Marvel went ahead and turned one of Black Widow's coolest scenes into a toy, but replaced her with Captain America.

This is also not to say that Marvel is being intentionally sexist or that their reasoning is malicious - they have created some insanely strong, independent female characters over the years, after all, so that would be a really unfair statement to make.

But since Black Widow is the first female Avenger in the MCU, why exclude her so blatantly? And since she plays such an integral role in the universe, who's to say both boys and girls alike wouldn't want to play with her character?

It can be argued that this is the case because the toys simply would not sell as well to the fanbase, but polls from [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](tag:293035) showed that about 40% of the film's audience was female.

On a similar note, Gamora was noticeably left off of this Guardians of the Galaxy shirt:

If words from the fans weren't enough, Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) also felt the need to chime in on the matter:

So after years of discussion and having the Incredible Hulk weigh in, it looks like Marvel is going to start releasing official Black Widow merchandise and costumes!

In an interview with Variety (via Uproxx), Marvel senior Vice President of Licensing Paul Gitter said they'll start putting “a big focus on adult female apparel” as well as other merchandise. So, fans of Black Widow will start to see more of Black Widow just in time for [Captain America: Civil War](tag:994409). I don't know about you, but I'm excite to see what they come up with!
