How to train your dinosaur!! ...raptor!!..hybrid!!...whatever!!
The lateral thinking, inventive, adorable Chief Dragon trainer Hiccup! Played by the lovable, funny, and witty Chris Pratt.
Astrid as played by your lovely, gorgeous and ever so charming Bryce Dallas Howard...
Toothless played by your agile, ferocious but loyal Raptors!
The good alpha played by the almighty Tyrannosaurus Rex! In another time he is the villain, but not this time! Oh yes!
The bad alpha who is played by the mysterious, anti-social, cooped up Indominus Rex!
Last but not least, Drago played by Hoskins.
That's it, pretty much!
The other comparisons made above are pretty obvious but I think I can actually compare Hiccup's mother to John Hammond. How they are both idealistic, and are supposedly doing what they do for the good of the animals, but in a sense they create a situation that enables the bad guy to do his bad. In How to train you Dragons 2, Hiccups mother gathers all the dragons in one place so that they could all be captured in one fell scoop by Drago. While John Hammond keeps hiring these shady mercenaries as private security, who have their own plans to capture the dinosaurs and abuse the research. The whole idea of training the raptors to use them for war is the same as in How to train your dragons 2, with those armored dragons. The concept of the natural alpha vs the "nurture" alpha is also there between Chris Pratt and dear old Blue. Even the scene when Toothless turns, it is exactly the same! But he ends up saving the day just like Blue lol.
At the end of the day I enjoyed the movie, I give them a big thumbs up for coming up with some sort of plot for a movie about Dinosaurs, even though it's a rip off, it's a good rip off. I love that Chris Pratt played the same character as he did in Guardians of the Galaxy, I loved his portrayal of Star-Prince.
The raptors were very bad-ass, the Indominus Rex was believable, and the ending was satisfying.
There were some moments when they should have just ran away instead of lingering around to see who wins. Other times when they couldn't have outrun the dinosaurs chasing them. But overall this movie is worth watching at least once in the theaters, and definitely worth watching in IMAX. I will watch it again for good measure :)
