the 80's crowd and gamers alike are in for a blast from the past when they feast their eyes on the upcoming action-adventure comedy Pixels. The film is based on a wildly popular internet short-film and there was even a parody of it on south park. This film is sure to keep the laughs coming fast and furious as an unlikely team of heroes battle lovable and iconic video game characters in order to insure the safety of earth. Pixels is one of the many odd-ball films to come out since some may find it weird that the studio decided to take a live action approach with this concept. If you like video-games then this might be the nostalgia-coaster you have been waiting to ride.

Here's the plot synopsis:

In 1982, in the hopes of establishing peaceful communication with extraterrestrial life, NASA launches a time capsule into outer space containing images and footage of Earth life and culture. However, aliens misinterpret enclosed video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war. They attack the Earth using the games as models for their various assaults, including Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, and Centipede. Their technology creates voxels that change form and are capable of turning any form of matter into more of itself. President Will Cooper (Kevin James) calls upon his best friend since childhood, former video game professional Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler), who is now a home theater installer and had a previous relationship with Cooper's wife (Jane Krakowski). To combat the video game characters, Brenner decides to lead a team of retrogamers Eddie Plant and Ludlow Lamensoff (Peter Dinklage and Josh Gad) to defeat the aliens with various technology similar to those used in games.

That plot synopsis seemed pretty meaty for a film of this nature (okay, maybe that was a slight exaggeration). You'll notice above that Ashley Benson ( pretty little liars) is also involved in the film and will be playing a video-game character by the name of Lady Lisa, but it's not clear how her character fits into the movie as a whole. It can most likely be assumed that one of our heroes will fall in love with this video-game character ,and that she will most likely sacrifice herself to stop the invasion fleet ( that could have been a spoiler, or not). Michelle Monaghan is the biggest surprise of this movie since she will have a crucial role as a weapons specialist and since she might just be getting her hands dirty this time around.Overall this movie sounds like good way to spend your Friday/Saturday night if your not leveling up in Halo or playing Assassins creed ( okay, It might not be as cool as playing those games).

Pixels arrives in theaters on July 24, 2015
