Whilst promoting the Blu Ray release of Kingsman: The Secret Service, director Matthew Vaughn revealed in a Q&A with Yahoo that he is currently writing the sequel to the popular spy film released earlier this year.
He told Yahoo that if the script and story is worthy of being made then he and Fox will proceed with the film:
"Well, the good new is that I'm writing it next door at the moment. If I think I can get the script good enough, then we are making it. So again, stay tuned, but we are looking our damndest to make that happen."
[Kingsman: The Secret Service](tag:713143) was a hit with fans, critics and really did well at the Box Office considering it's not so spectacular opening weekend. The film opened with $36 Million and went on to gross over $403 Million Worldwide, staying in the top 5 at the Box Office for an incredible 6 weeks!
Personally I really liked the film, you can check out my review here. I personally wouldn't want anyone but Matthew Vaughn directing the sequel, his over the top and comically brutal style of filmmaking was a perfect fit for Kingsman.
Vaughn also revealed in the Q&A that a new addition to the Kingsman team will be in the sequel; an American agent. I'm sure we'll all have fun in the not too distant future on speculating who that could be.
Vaughn has never returned to a sequel. He handed off X-Men Days Of Future Past to former X-Men director Bryan Singer after Vaughn directed First Class. He also didn't return to direct Kick-Ass 2 after he did such a remarkable job on the first film he handed the sequel off to Jeff Wadlow. But Vaughn said that might not be the case this time:
“I’m in love with these characters and I want to work with them again so I’ll probably be breaking the rule of [me] tending not to make sequels.”
Kingsman: The Secret Service is now available on Blu Ray, DVD and Digital HD in the US and UK.
