Here we go. My extremely belated review of Guardians of the Galaxy. I'm a fan of movies from different genre's. I want to begin reviewing movies that are in my collection and share them with all ya'll at MoviePilot!
When GOTG begins, we see a young Peter Quill at the hospital where his mother is on her death bed. Young Quill becomes so distraught once his mother passes. Peter runs out of the hospital and end's up getting abducted/teleported up to an "alien" spacecraft.
Then we get to see Star Lord(Chris Pratt)as an adult flying into a deserted planet with the hopes of obtaining a special orb that has a HUGE bounty on it's head. Peter Quill beats everyone to it, and has to fight off some alien soldiers in his attempt to retrieve the orb. Thanos and Ronan the Accuser have plans to destroy whatever comes in their path, they are the two antagonists of the film. Quill luckily gets away in his spacecraft jokingly named The Milano. He then is able to attempt to sell the orb, Quill has no idea what he got himself into while stealing the orb. He unknowingly goes to the first buyer he knows and gets turned away immediately. Not knowing what the "treasure" he stole has powers not of this world. This was an amazing start to the film, introducing characters as the plot rolls along and keeps you watching from start to finish.
The quest the main character's must partake to save the universe is exciting and exhilarating. It shows that even though you may not like someone. Sometimes you have to put ego's and attitudes aside to achieve goals in life. In this case, to save the universe from the evil Ronan the Accuser. Who is being ordered around by Thanos-Of course. Ronan's main goal is to keep the orb for himself and overtake Thanos' throne. Which ends up horribly for Ronan. Thanks to Star-Lord and the rest of the gang.
What the Guardians must do to protect the universe leads them on a journey of unimaginative thrills and explosive action scenes. Case in point, the prison break. Lead by none other than Rocket-his demands were HILARIOUS. Especially him demanding one of the prisoners fake/mechanical leg. Rocket even goes as far as wanting another prisoner's fake eye, just for the fun of it! HA!. That scene is my utmost favorite. It shows them having to put aside any angst and they must work together if they want to survive....good or bad.
The only negatives of this movie for myself was the way it ended. Seeing Quill distract Ronan with a dance off was unexpected, but funny. I hope we see more of Groot in GOTG2, to see what all went on as he was growing back into an adult tree....LOL. If you have young ones or just want to enjoy a movie that will keep your eyes glued. I most definitely recommend The Guardians of the Galaxy.
The main characters you see throughout the movie couldn't have been more perfect. The comedic one-liners, and the film's soundtrack really made this movie what it was. It truly is fun for the whole family. Young or old, You don't have to know the history of the Guardians to enjoy the flick. James Gunn directed a beautiful masterpiece, which has lead to a 2nd film debuting May 5, 2017. I'm overly thrilled to see what he has in store for us fans. I went into the theater not knowing anything about the film's characters. I left the theater wanting more of Groot, and Rocket, and Peter, and Gamora, and Drax. Heck, all of them left a great impression on fans new and old.
In my opinion-You cannot go wrong with a superb cast like this.....Peter Quill/Star Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Rocket Racoon (Voice by Bradley Cooper), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Groot (Voice by Vin Diesel), Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace), Nova Prime Irani Rael (Glenn Close), Nebula (Karen Gillan), Korath (Djimon Hounsou), Yondu (Michael Rooker), and Corpsman Rhomann Dey (John C Reilly).
It will be exciting to see what James Gunn and Marvel has in store for Guardians of the Galaxy2-which isn't even the true title for the film. Mr.Gunn is keeping that on the low till the time is right.
