San Andreas starts out with a death defying rescue of a female passenger in an SUV. The vehicle she was driving was thrown off the side of a mountain thanks in part to a rock slide. A helicopter appears and is being piloted by who else, The Rock. The rescue scene was a bit over the top, but it executed what it was supposed to. Suspense, action and drama was delivered from start to finish.
As the film rolls on, a 9.6 magnitude earthquake hits the San Andreas Fault Line. The first quake started in Nevada which tore down the Hoover Dam. The earthquake in CA(LA to San Fran) was by far the worst. As you all can imagine, the destruction and devastation was EVERYWHERE.
It always seemed as if Johnson was able to escape harm's way in the very last seconds of imminent death. Anytime a cast member was in trouble and facing a horrible, crushing death....or drowning. The Rock was seamlessly there to save the day. Either by boat, chopper, single engine plane, or by swimming like a BOSS. The cast in this film were spot on in my opinion. I've always been a huge fan of Carla Gugino, since she first appeared in the cult classic, Son-In-Law(featuring Pauly Shore). I literally grew up with that movie.
My advice to anyone unsure of wanting to see this film. Please go in with an open mind. Don't set the bar high for this film. The action and suspense is what truly drives this movie. All around fun time. Especially for the kids!
Cast includes Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario, Paul Giamatti.
