As a good friend once said, "Manners maketh man."
Well, I would like to say "Quotes Maketh Movie". Isn't it true that most of us go gaga over our favorite quotes from our favorite movies? The quotes are either simple, witty, bad ass one lines that you love repeating!
On the other hand there are ones that make you think, stay up at night perhaps. And when you finally realize what they meant...
It is indeed surprising, inspiring and invigorating to see what can be said through a few words. So without any delay I shall get down to my 10 dialogues for the MP Creators' 100.
"That wasn't flying. That was falling with style!"
- Woody (Voiced by Tom Hanks), from Toy Story
That's childhood summarized in one quote. Teasing your friends, having that innocent envy of the others toys maybe? This is the one quote that I find extremely powerful from what was arguably the greatest animated movie series of all time.
"Mama always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."
- Tom Hanks, From Forrest Gump.
Tom Hanks' second appearance on this list and a well deserved one too! There are few actors who could possible pull of such a seemingly cheesy dialogue, without looking bad! Needless to say, Tom Hanks is one of them!
“You know somethin’ Utivich, this might just be my masterpiece”
- Brad Pitt in Inglourious Basterds.
Quentin Tarantino is known for the beautifully violent films that he makes, featuring some real bad-ass car songs, but what's the one more thing that make his movies among the best! Yep the dialogues, and this closing dialogue from Inglourious Basterds is a pure beauty!
"The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled, was convincing the world he didn't exist!"
- Kevin Spacey in The Usual Suspects.
These words need no description, they're music to the ears! Though see this film, if you haven't already do uncover the true meaning of these words...
"Houston, we have a problem."
- Tom Hanks in Apollo 13.
Now this is one quote that pretty much everyone has heard. Whether it's in your favorite TV Show, or Movie, or even a video game! This quote has been used endlessly. But of course the most famous occasion was when Tom Hanks said these words in the drama, Apollo 13.
“Gentlemen, you can’t fight in here! This is the war room"
- Peter Sellers from Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learnt To Stop Worry And Love The Bomb
The sheer mad hilarity of the situation in which these epic words were uttered make them all the more brilliant!
"...now... where was I?"
These seemingly pale lines begin to make sense when you realize the genius behind them. Guy Pearce, playing Leonard Shelby said these lines in Memento.
8) “Goli nahi marenge keh ke lenge uski”
(These lines come at about the 40 second mark)
(Translated from Hindi: I won’t shoot him straight but I’ll warn him and do it in style) I admit my translation isn’t as powerful as the dialogue, perhaps the video will help. From the movie Gangs of Wasseypur, by India’s Tarantino, Anurag Kashyap.
“So if I asked you about art, you’d probably give me the skinny on every art book ever written. Michelangelo, you know a lot about him. Life’s work, political aspirations, him and the pope, sexual orientations, the whole works, right? But I’ll bet you can’t tell me what it smells like in the Sistine Chapel. You’ve never actually stood there and looked up at that beautiful ceiling; seen that. If I ask you about women, you’d probably give me a syllabus about your personal favorites. You may have even been laid a few times. But you can’t tell me what it feels like to wake up next to a woman and feel truly happy.”
Robin Williams from Good Will Hunting.
10) “I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse”
- Marlon Brando, playing Don Vito Corleone, In The Godfather.
Thanks for reading also do look out for the upcoming lists as a part of the #MPC100 also do take a look at some of the previous editions as well!
