J.K. Rowling confirmed the existence of an American School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

I was upset that I didn't get into Hogwarts, but now I'm REALLY depressed that I didn't even get an acceptance letter from the American Hogwarts. I guess I have to accept the fact that I am a witch stuck in a Muggle's body.

Her other Tweets have also dropped hints about the upcoming film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The story will take place in New York, in which Eddie Redmayne's character Newt Scamander will meet with students from the American school.

According to Rowling's Tweets, the name is of "immigrant origin" and "indigenous magic was important in the founding of the school." Entertainment Weekly has come up with four possible locations which might house the American Hogwarts. Check out their guesses and speculations below:

1. New Orleans, LA

New Orleans checks everything on the list. It was founded by French settlers. It also contains a large Native American population. Their history is rich with voodoo, spells, and witchcraft. This seems completely realistic and plausible.

2. Lost Colony of Roanoke in North Carolina

Roanoke is one of the most mystical legends in American history, as it is a lost colony founded by settlers in the 16th century. When other colonists revisited, the entire area was wiped out with only the word "CROATOAN" etched into the wood of a tree. This is the name of a small tribe of Native American's who lived nearby.

Perhaps the two groups banded and went on to make a secretive magical school?

3. New England

Rowling has specifically mentioned that the Salem Witches' Institute mentioned in The Goblet of Fire when Harry passed a group of American witches at the Quidditch World Cup is not an actual school.

However, this means that it's very possible that the location of the American Hogwarts could very well be in New England. The history of New England is pummeled with witchcraft history. Also, this area houses many Native American tribes.

4. The Southwest

This one might be a bit of a stretch, but there is speculation that the American Hogwarts is located in Area 51, a place highly associated with sightings of UFOs. There are also so many Native Americans inhabiting the Southwest.

I personally don't mind all this speculation. For all we know, Rowling might never reveal the exact location of the American Hogwarts, but it is fun to consider. We have to wait until Winter to gain more information, and this is posing as a good distraction as I wait as patiently as I can.
