AWESOME NEWS HORROR FANS! News broke earlier today that Michael Myers will return in the new installment of Halloween franchise titled HALLOWEEN RETURNS. It has also been reported that this installment will not be a in 3-D or a follow up to Rob Zombies Halloween remakes and it will be penned by Marcus Dustan and Patrick Melton who were behind The Collector, The Collection, and multiple SAW films. Marcus Dustan is also set to direct.
It was said that the script will be a new terrifying installment of the original franchise started by John Carpenter and Debra Hill. I'm not sure if that means that it will be a continuing chapter of the original 8 film franchise or not.
Malek Akkad is set to produce the film as well who first started his career of producing Halloween films back when Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers was released.
“The legacy of Halloween is something that Trancas is very proud of, and I look forward to working together again with Bob and Dimension to continue that tradition,” said Akkad.
Bloody Disgusting reports:
The film will focus on a new group of Haddonfield youngsters against Myers. The now 18-year-old child of one of Myers’ victims plays a central role along with the child of a cop whose long been obsessed with Myers’ case, even putting it before his own daughter.
Myers is now on death row and the two kids with their own personal vendettas against the killer sneak in to watch his execution. But when things go awry and Myers escapes, the pair, along with their friends, find themselves in the firing line.
Personally, I find this plot interesting. I'd rather have a new Halloween film that doesn't continue the Rob Zombie remakes and continues with the original franchise even if it is more of a reboot.
Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of the Weinstein Company and Dimension Films spoke out about the project saying,
“Michael Myers has taken a long break from the big screen and we know fans are eager to see him return. We are excited to be back in business with Trancas and look forward to bringing one of the scariest installments of this classic franchise to audiences worldwide."
Guys, I don't know about you, but I'm excited! It'll be great to see Michael Myers return to Haddonfield and wreck havoc.
Although there has been no word on a release date, casting is currently underway and it's been confirmed by Trancas International and Dimension Films that filming will start in July!
RECENT UPDATE: ShockTillYouDrop.com reports that Halloween Returns will take place after the events of Halloween II meaning that it will be connected to the original series. It was also reported that Deputy Gary Hunt (the blonde haired cop) who accompanied Dr. Loomis to the school in the 1981 sequel will now be the sheriff of Haddonfield who is still obsessed with the case of Myers.
