FINALLY! Lots of new information has been revealed about the new Halloween movie. The working title, the director, AND what the plot may be was all released just this morning.
First for the people who may not already know, the new Halloween movie won't have any connection to the past films. That includes Rob Zombie's extremely controversial entries. A few months ago the new movie was described as a ''recalibration'' and shouldn't be thought of as a reboot either. So this entry will just be a standalone film.
One of today's important revelations regarding the film is what the title will officially be. Which was cleverly named, Halloween Returns. The title will more than likely spark more interest than something like Halloween 11 or anything of that nature.
Who's Running the Show?
The next big piece of information that was revealed is how Marcus Dunstan (Saw, The Collector) will be directing the movie based off of the script he and his partner Patrick Melton wrote. So one thing we can be sure to expect from this film are really good death scenes.
Producing the movie is Mathew Stein, and somebody who's been associated with the franchise from the very beginning, Malek Akkad. Son of the man who financially started the franchise back in 1978, Moustapha Akkad.
What About the Plot?
Now after revealing the facts about the movie, I want to talk about the rumor floating around about the plot. Here's what a few websites have said about it.
"A new generation of victims” being chased by the unstoppable masked killer, Michael Myers. Among them is a now “18-year-old child of one of Myers’ victims” in addition to “a cop whose long been obsessed with Myers’ case, even putting it before his daughter.”
Wondering who this cop is that they're speaking of? Well, according to ShockTillYouDrop.com, you may already know him from the original Halloween 2 as Deputy Hunt. The blonde-haired officer who helped Doctor Loomis the night Michael murdered all of those teenagers and hospital workers.
So that tells us the new movie will have some sort of connection to the original two Halloween films. That is, if any of the plot details are true, none of the details involving the story have been officially confirmed. So for right now the plot is still unknown.
Casting and Release
Casting for the movie has started though, and the film is said to go into production in July. Which leads me to believe that the film will be released sometime in 2016 along with Friday The 13th. Am I sensing some possible competition?
The most important revelation today, is that Michael Myers will finally be returning to theaters after a lengthy absence.
“Michael Myers has taken a long break from the big screen and we know fans are eager to see him return. We are excited to be back in business with Trancas and look forward to bringing one of the scariest installments of this classic franchise to audiences worldwide,” said Bob Weinstein, co-chairman The Weinstein Company & Dimension Films.
“The legacy of ‘Halloween’ is something that Trancas is very proud of, and I look forward to working together again with Bob and Dimension to continue that tradition,” said Akkad. Dunstan and Melton are repped by Paradigm, Underground’s Trevor Engelson and attorney Dave Feldman. Overseeing production for Dimension Films are EVP of Production and Creative Affairs, Matthew Signer, SVP of Production and Development and Keith Lev."
