2014 may not have been the best year for Video Games as a whole, but it was an astounding time for the survival horror genre. Shinji Mikami, creator of Resident Evil, returned with a new IP The Evil Within, and The Creative Assembly came out and performed the impossible by making a great Alien game, Alien: Isolation. It was an exciting time to be a horror fan and we all know how much support and potential this genre has in the future of the industry.
But if you were given the chance to pick between two of the most successful horror franchises of all time, where would your loyalties lie? Silent Hills may have been killed by Konami, but there have been substantial rumours about it arriving on the Xbox One. But would you pick it over the return of the Dead Space franchise with Dead Space 4?
Silent Hills vs Dead Space 4 for Survival Horror Release Date
Dead Space 1 and 2 are some of my favourite games of the Xbox 360 and PS3 generation. The first time I engaged with the franchise's initial title, it scared the absolute crap out of me. Its world was fascinating, its story was intriguing, its combat was intensely unique and its atmosphere remained constantly terrifying throughout its campaign. Dead Space 3 leaned more towards a blockbuster shooter than a survival horror, but it was still a bit of a blast in the snow!
Dead Space 4 is something that Visceral Games have stated they'd love to try. It's a series that is very close to their hearts and they adored creating these dark and tense adventures. But whether EA are going to sign off on Dead Space 4 remains to be seen. After all, Dead Space 3 failed to perform well for EA, so we may see the series remain in a perpetual state of uncertainty for quite some time. But would you pick the return of Dead Space over seeing Silent Hills get a release date on XBOX One and PS4?
Could Silent Hills Ever Come to Xbox One & PS4?
There may be a lot of companies out there who will realise the potential that Silent Hills has a game. With names like Hideo Kojima, Guillermo del Toro and Norman Reedus attached to such an infamous franchise, a lot of people could potentially want to capitalise on this idea. We may see a revival of the IP in the future, however unlikely that may seem. But would you choose Dead Space 4 over an experience like this?
Personally, even though I adore the Dead Space franchise, the idea of seeing Hideo Kojima create a full horror experience akin to that of the PT demo would be astounding. I'd pick that over Dead Space 4 any day, even though I'm dying to see this IP make a return. But what choice would you make? Which survival horror experience would you take given the choice?
