We love Harry Potter so much that even the tiniest thing can be interesting. It's amazing how much J.K. Rowling juggles in her head to keep such a vast universe afloat - so it's hardly surprising that a few things get muddled along the way!

Just like Harry Potter movie bloopers are totally charming, check out some funny little moments the books contained weird little mistakes!

The Wink of the Snake

Book: 1

When Harry accidentally releases the boa constrictor from its tank, it winks at him. This is technically impossible, as snakes do not have eyelids.

Dumbledore Sent the Slytherins to their Deaths?!

Book: 1

When the troll enters the dungeons, Dumbledore sends all of the students to their dormitories. This seems sensible, but the Slytherin dorms are actually... in the dungeons. Dumbledore must have known this, so he's kind of sending the Slytherin kids into the path of a rampaging troll.

Lily Died Before James?

Book: 4

When Harry and Voldemort's wands lock in Priori Incantatem, the spirits of those Voldemort killed float before Harry's eyes. James appears before Lily, which would mean that Lily was killed BEFORE her husband. The error has since been corrected in the books, after J.K. Rowling admitted to making the mistake in 'late night writer's fatigue'.

Dursleys at Sea?

Book: 1

Less of a mistake and more of a WTF, at the very start of the first book, Hagrid takes Harry away from the tiny shack at sea... leaving the Dursleys there without any form of transportation. Maybe they were rescued by the Coast Guard?

Dates and Times

Book: 1

There are several examples of specific dates not matching up to the days they fell upon on the real life calendar. For example, the start of the tale happens on October 31, 1981, a 'dull grey Tuesday' that was actually a Saturday. Dudley's 11th birthday - the one at the zoo - similarly happens on a 'Saturday'. June 23 that year, 1991, was actually a Sunday.
