(Warning: there might be some spoilers for the last episode of Game of Thrones Season 5 in here. Watch out!)

The main purpose of Game of Thrones might seem to be the gruesome elimination of everything we hold dear, but out of the despair it has caused us, countless incredible works of art have been inspired.

German fan artist Thorsten Schmitt is one of the artists that has been able to convert our suffering to beauty, with a series of paintings depicting some of our favorite *sniff*sniff* characters.

I highly recommend checking out Thorsten's Talenthouse page as well, because these incredible GoT paintings are just the tip of the iceberg. He has some amazing pieces featuring characters from a whole range of movies and TV shows that are well worth marveling over!

Tyrion Lannister

A pre-facial scar Tyrion, no doubt.

Daenerys Targaryen

The Mother of Dragons looking both fierce and contemplative, as only she can.

Jon Snow

He's not really gone, right? He just can't be!

Arya Stark

Will she be able to look into the future after that last episode, like she is here?

Bonus: Gandalf from Lord of the Rings

Because Gandalf... and I'm a sucker for a bit of chiaroscuro, what can I say?
