Wow. Ever since finishing Kingdom Hearts 2 in 2005, we all became anxious for the release of the next numbered title, Kingdom Hearts 3. This title was finally announced at Sony's E3 conference in 2013, and since then, we've had the '1.5' and '2.5' HD remixes of the prior games to ensure that we're all up to date. Finally, today we've received a wonderful trailer for the game during Square Enix's conference, which includes some teases at the story, world, and gameplay!

Missed the Kingdom Hearts 3 trailer? Watch it here!

The trailer opens up with two characters talking to each other over a game of chess, while discussing the Keyblade War and Keyblade Masters. The game then cuts to gameplay of Sora roaming around a world and attacking enemy Heartless in numerous ways. The gameplay looks just as awesome and fun to watch and play as it was before! It seems to include your normal hack-and-slash mechanics, as well as the awesome combos, and the Disney ride inspired special moves/summons!

After watching Sora, Donald, and Goofy fight it out for a while, we're brought back to the two characters from the beginning - who are still having a conversation. We finally see a shot that reveals Xehanort's Keyblade hanging on the wall, and immediately after, we finally see the two faces of the characters. We see that the one on the left is young Xehanort, while the one on the right is a young Eraqus.

Oh my word, this game is SO pretty!

If you haven't played Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, you're going to be a little confused about what's going on with the story and characters, since Birth by Sleep is where the storyline starts to get really hectic. I'm not going to spoil anything in case you'd like to play the game, but if it doesn't interest you, there's always Wiki pages that explain the plot so you can understand what's going on! But with all that said, what else can we expect to see from this title?

Transforming Keyblades?!

That's right! It looks like our Keyblade can transform from its normal form, to dual-wielding pistols, to even a rocket launcher! How crazy is that?!

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!

Hints at returning worlds?

We've seen clips of the Rock Titan from the Olympus Coliseum, both in the 2013 trailer, and in the one released today. This sort of hinted at Hercules' world returning, but that was all we had to go on. However, there are very brief moments throughout the trailer where we can see some pillars and statues that are reminiscent of that world. If this is correct, Herc's world is a lot more open than it was in the past!

There was also a section at around the 2-minute mark in the trailer where we got to see what very much looks like Twilight Town! Between all these hints at returning worlds, as well as the inevitable addition of new ones, it looks like we're going to be busy with a lot to explore!

A new world confirmed!

Before we got to see the trailer, we got to see a video message from two Disney employees. Greg Coleman (Marketing Manager at Walt Disney's Animation Studios), and Roy Conli (Producer at Walt Disney Animation Studios). Conli said:

I'm incredibly proud because this is my film; the film that I produced, that I love. It's going to be the first one in a series. It's called: Tangled! We have this amazing partnership between Square Enix and Disney, and the fact that Square Enix is really trying to bring it to life with the same integrity that we brought it to life with is going to be cool!
I spy with my little eye... Rapunzel's tower!

Coleman went on to say that there was going to be a lot more to tell, and that they're just going to give us a little bit today, but that they couldn't be more excited! Hopefully this means there will be more in the near-ish future! Oh, please, please, please let there be some juicy news soon.

When will Kingdom Hearts 3 be released?

I wish more than anything I had the answer to that. At the end of the trailer we were presented, not with a date, but the soul-crushing words: 'Now in Development.'

I'm going to go cry now, I'll be back soon.

We didn't even get a year, but here's hoping we don't have to wait too long. And realistically, it wouldn't make sense for them to wait a long period of time since they just recently released the HD remixes.

In the end, I really don't mind how long it takes. This is going to be an incredible game, and I'll wait however long is necessary to ensure that it's all we've been waiting for!
