Chances are, if I were to ask you what your favorite television show is right now, you would instantly be able to whistle, hum, or even sing the theme song that goes along with it. That's because regardless of whether you've seen just one season or binge-watched the whole series, you've heard that song at least ten times.

Over the years, those theme songs have become nationally recognized because of how darn catchy they are. So after racking through my memory, I've hand-picked my top 10 theme songs that I would dub the best and catchiest.

10. How I Met Your Mother

HIMYM was our version of Friends for the late 2000's and early 2010's. Naturally, the show amassed quite a following. The theme for the show was short and sweet, and it always left us with a joyous feeling, much like the feeling we got from actually watching the show.

9. The Office

Oh, The Office. Even though the show ended years ago, I still can't believe how much I love this show. I haven't watched it for a while, but I can still play the beginning of that piano part on my keyboard because of how many times I heard it. Whenever I hear it now, I look back to a truly unforgettable show that had a truly unforgettable theme song.

8. Sherlock

This is a bit of an oddball for the list, as it is not instantly as recognizable as some of the others on the list. That being said, the theme is amazing. Even though the show is set in modern-day London, it has that older, Victorian feel that the Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock Holmes movies have.

7. Doctor Who

I almost wanted to put this one higher on the list, because the show started back in the 60's, and it still has the same theme. Even though the song has received some major modifications, the underlying melody has remained constant. That's really impressive for a series that has kept going for this long!

6. Firefly

I may have been biased in ranking Firefly up this high, but you have to admit that the theme is pretty beautiful. That simple quote, "You can't take the sky from me" explains the tone of the show perfectly. I even made this theme song the ringtone on my phone because there is simply nothing wrong with it.

5. The A-Team

This is one of those themes where you can match the show as soon as you hear it. Whether you know it from the show or the Liam Neeson-led cinematic adaptation, you will probably find more people that know the song than people who don't. The A-Team theme is one of those that belongs in the theme song hall of fame for how well it has held up over the years.

4. M*A*S*H

This theme song is absolutely mesmerizing. Based off of the song "Suicide Is Painless," the song has an almost morbid sense of beauty that instantly starts to mess with your emotions. I could just listen to the theme over and over without getting tired of it. The theme song, if nothing else, should be enough just for you to give the show a chance.

3. The Andy Griffith Show

While the theme was very brief, that cheery whistling tune really stuck with me every time I watched it. I could just be going about my day whistling the same tune, and on occasion I could hear others whistling it in public. Even after all these years, people still remember this catchy tune.

2. Friends

When you think of a sitcom, many people nowadays might think The Bog Bang Theory or even How I Met Your Mother, but the cream of the crop has always been Friends. The classic gang of Joey, Chandler, Monica, Ross, Rachel, and Phoebe have been the iconic television ensemble since the 90's, and the memorable "I'll be there for you" has been their battle cry. Try to tell me one person who doesn't know this song by now.

1. Game of Thrones

If any of you didn't see this coming, it is likely that you haven't watched Game of Thrones. The show is perfect on so many levels: the plot, the characters, and of course, the intro. That duh-duh da-da-duh-duh da-da-duh-duh is so epic and recognizable that there was no doubt in my mind that it should be placed as number one. The theme has such elegance and intensity that perfectly expresses the many emotions you experience by watching the show.
