Emily Olivia Leah Blunt is one of the most recent examples of a fine new actress to hit Hollywood. She is hilarious as seen in Five Year Engagement and Into The Woods. But she is not only a funny character, she is also a badass, bonafide actress and a heroic role model for young women today. Her amazing performance as Rita in Edge of Tomorrow completely stole the show from the always fantastic Tom Cruise. She's only 32-years-old and her talents are definitely some of the hottest properties in the movie industry right now.
Need convincing? Check out the evidence:
She's Adored Worldwide
She has a proven track record of being entirely adored, case in point: she's ranked eighth in the 'Women We'd Love To Love' in a poll pooling the opinions of 4,000 gay women. I'd say this is due to her being incredibly down-to-Earth, not to mention that she's just so easily likable.
She also ranked number 53 in the '2010 Ask Men' list of the 'Top 99 Most Desirable Women.' Out of all the women in the world? That's exceptional, Emily!
She's Got Great Taste
She counts the classic Jaws (1975) as her all-time favorite movie, which she first saw at the tender age 10. Most adults were petrified enough when watching that movie, so that's quite impressive for a 10-year-old. Told you she was a badass. Her four favorite actresses are: Cate Blanchett, Emma Thompson, Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman. Not a bad four, miss Blunt, not a bad four at all.
She has a wide taste in music that you can effortlessly relate to. She listens to: Kings of Leon, Keane, Kanye West, Death Cab For Cutie, Ray LaMontagne and Otis Redding. Just try naming one of those you don't like.
She's an Endless Book of Talent
Acting is not her only gig, she has a variety of talents, including singing and playing cello. She also probably, definitely has the cutest relationship in Hollywood with The Office funny man, John Krasinski. The pair tied the knot in 2010. I can't imagine it's easy being that good of a couple in Hollywood either, bravo to them!
She's Hot, but Cool
She leaves one mean spell on men, too. She once dated Canadian crooner Michael Bublé, whom she met in 2005. Their relationship came to an end in 2008, but it's still pretty sweet to have a song dedicated to you - which one of Bublé's biggest hits, 'Everything,' is. Not everybody gets that! She's one inspiring woman.
There's also nothing quite like a humble celebrity. Emily was quoted saying: "I'd love to be exciting and say that I was the rebel at school, but sadly I wasn't." That's okay Emily, it obviously helped you be the diverse actress you are.2q
Emily has a totally badass role coming out this year in the movie Sicario, where an idealistic FBI agent is enlisted by an elite government task force official to aid in the accelerating war on drugs. She is supported by big names such as Josh Brolin, Jon Bernthal and Benicio Del Toro. With all these huge leads, she'll be the standout star of this thriller. I'm all bets in. Sicario will surely be one of the best films this year, especially with director of the Oscar nominated Prisoners, Denis Villeneuve, taking the director's seat.
She's a Fantastic Role Model
She can be seen as an inspiration. She had a debilitating speech impediment until the age of 12, so she started adopting new accents, attributing acting to helping her overcome her linguistic troubles. She not only plays strong female characters, she's a strong female role model in real life: "It's the greatest thing to not be a damsel in distress in an action movie," were her words when talking about her solid role in Edge of Tomorrow.
It's also worth noting that she was pregnant with her daughter Hazel while filming Into The Woods. I must admit I never noticed! Even with all the running around she did. She loves the planet, too! When asked if she could have dinner with anybody living or dead, she chose David Attenborough, famed naturalist. When she was asked about what her favorite TV show was, she said Planet Earth (and Oprah!).
Hollywood's Elite Love Her
She is good friends with the indisputable Hollywood legend, Meryl Streep. Check out the video above of the pair naming their favorite movies and celebrity crushes! You can see how down-to-Earth both women of the dynamic duo are.
She really does have a charm that catches everyone's eye. After seeing Emily's performance in My Summer of Love, award-winning actress Susan Sarandon sought her out for the film Irresistible. Emily received the role of Mara, a disturbed woman who plots to become the daughter of her childhood best friend's biological mother.
She Does Her Own Stunts
Just like her co-star, Tom! In fact, she claims that she almost killed Tom Cruise! Quite a funny story actually, check it out above! Badass certificate well received, Emily!
What do you think? Are you sold yet, I mean, if you somehow weren't already? Emily Blunt is kicking ass at the moment and I have a feeling that she's only going to keep on rising in the ranks of extraordinary actresses. Expect her to be around for a long while. She's bound to make us continue laughing, maybe evening crying. There's definitely an Oscar on her horizon!
Way to go, Emily!
