December 18, 2015! Ewok Enthusiasts and Jedi Junkies, Save this date! As one of 2015’s most anticipated films, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the first installment of J.J. Abrams’ new trilogy and is set to release later this year. Star Wars fans are rejoicing all over, but we can expect several changes in the franchise’ seventh film.
According to filmmaker George Lucas, Disney made the decision to come up their own scripts, different from the ones that Lucas had originally written for Star Wars VII. We know that director J.J Abrams and screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan have since become the main writers for the upcoming Star Wars films. There has been debate over J.J Abrams’ interpretation with some fans questioning Abrams because of his directorial work in Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013). Others have embraced Abrams’ fresh take of the Star Wars universe.
Despite these changes, the new Star Wars film will still draw heavily from the existing Star Wars canon. We’ll be able to see many of Lucas’ original characters and creations that made us fall in love with the previous films. Take Fr. Roderick for example, we know where he’ll be come December 18th.
