22 years ago we were warmly welcomed to a theme park unlike any other when John Hammond opened the huge gates of Jurassic Park. While Hammond's dream quickly turned to a nightmare, the movie Jurassic Park became a blockbuster hit, and the groundbreaking CGI used in the film helped ignite a passion for dinosaurs in audiences worldwide.
Two decades after Jurassic Park was deemed to be a disaster, Jurassic World tried its luck, to ultimately similar results in the Colin Trevorrow-directed Jurassic World, but while the new generation of this franchise are now familiar faces, what about those who started it all, what do the cast of Jurassic Park look like now? Well, hold onto your butts, press play on the theme song below and take a look for yourself:
Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill)
Fun Fact: Sam Neill actually injured his hand when he lit the flare in the T-Rex scene, apparently it dropped burning phosphorous on his arm which got under his watch strap, burning a chunk of his arm out!
Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern)
Fun Fact: In the film Ian Malcolm shamelessly flirts with Ellie without making any headway, however in real life Jeff Goldblum and Laura Dern did get involved and were actually engaged at one point before breaking off the relationship.
Lex Murphy (Ariana Richards)
Fun Fact: During the famous Jell-O eating scene a crew member initially held Ariana Richards' elbow and shook her arm to add to Lex's terror. However after Richards' asked if she could do it, they realized she could pull it off just as believably all by herself.
Tim Murphy (Joseph Mazzello)
Fun Fact: The famous 'Raptors in the kitchen' scene was filmed on Mazzello's 9th birthday! Unfortunately the scene wasn't all smooth sailing and he actually ran into one of the Raptors, and got clobbered in the head by one of the six-inch claws!
Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum)
Fun Fact: The scene when Dr. Malcolm distracts the T-Rex with a flare was actually Jeff Goldblum's suggestion! He felt that Dr. Malcolm making a heroic action was better than what the script originally had which was that Malcolm would get scared and run away.
Robert Muldoon (Bob Peck)
Fun Fact: During Muldoon's death scene as well as some of the kitchen scene, the Raptors were played by men in suits.
Ray Arnold (Samuel L. Jackson)
Fun Fact: Samuel L. Jackson was supposed to film Ray Arnold's death scene but hurricane Iniki destroyed the set and the scene was scrapped. Jackson regrets this because apparently his character was supposed to be chased by Raptors, winding up brutally killed.
Dr. Henry Wu (BD Wong)
Fun Fact: All of the surviving characters from Jurassic Park appear in the sequel: Ian Malcolm, John Hammond, Lex and Tim Murphy appear in The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler appear in Jurassic Park III and Henry Wu appears in Jurassic World.
Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight)
Fun Fact: While Wayne Knight totally believed that Dennis Nedry deserved to die, he was bothered that it happened off-camera and wasn't as gory as in the novel, where he was decapitated!
John Hammond (Richard Attenborough)
Fun Fact: While filming on the Hawaiian island of Kaua'i, the category 4 hurricane Iniki hit the island (the most powerful hurricane to hit Hawaii in recorded history). While the rest of cast and crew took shelter in the hotel ballroom, Attenborough chose to stay in his hotel room and slept through the whole event. When he was asked how he could have possibly slept through the storm he simply replied, "My dear boy, I survived the blitz!"
