FIFA and PES are unfortunately difficult to analyse until you have the opportunity to spend long periods of time with - or without - the ball. Repetitive AI choices only become clear in moments of peril, and after you concede a 90th minute goal to an aspect of the game's design, that's when you realise what FIFA 15 or PES 2015 weren't doing right. These two games have their issues, and the next instalment may fix them while introducing some new ones of their own.
As Konami and EA attempt to do every year, FIFA 16 and PES 2016 aim to combat the issues that players encountered with last year's version. However, we're coming to the stage were both sides are merely tweaking the experiences. To many, buying FIFA 16 or PES 2016 may seem like paying for overpriced DLC coupled with some prettier grass. However, Konami and EA are attempting to dissuade players from this opinion as they market what they believe to be the best version of their games yet.
FIFA 16 vs PES 2016 for Best Football Experience
I estimate that regardless of whether you follow FIFA or PES, the one that you buy won't have a feature that you'll desire from the other. There are clearly defined reasons why gamers flock to their own choice of football game, and with FIFA being the most popular gaming franchise in the world, Konami are constantly trying to persuade players to ditch it for theirs. It's no easy task, as once you start playing with FIFA, you become very comfortable in its formulas and the same goes for PES of course.
PES has had the reputation of being the "better" football game for a while now. It's said to be the franchise that gifts players more control over every aspect of the game - though we're not all in complete agreement with the statement. FIFA has the brand name of course and all of the perks that go with it, but it may also simply have more of an approachable way of engaging with the the ball. The question is whether PES 2016 has the power to push people off FIFA 16.
Which Release Date Will Have More Success?
Last year we saw PES 2015 take home a number of awards for best sports game, one of them being from IGN. The team developing it have made great strides with PES over the years, to the point where it really could start to win over FIFA fans. But once you're happy with the formula that you've engaged with for years, it can be pretty hard to try something new - let alone buy PES 2016 on top of FIFA 16. So where do your loyalties lie?
Do you think FIFA 16 will be a better game than PES 2016? Do you believe that PES offers a better experience but still play FIFA, or the other way around? Let us know what you think in the comments! I can't wait to see these two games later this year on their respective release dates and try them both out on the XBOX One and PS4! You can see them both in action in their E3 demos - check them out and let us know what you think.
