With the filming of the female-led Ghostbusters underway, we can hopefully gleam a few more details about this still relatively reclusive project. The Paul Feig headed project, which stars Kristin Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Melissa McCarthy, has recently started filming in Boston, which is itself putting in a stellar performance as the New York City of the original.

In the images snapped on set, we see a brunette Wiig looking rather stern, as well as Melissa McCarty and Kate McKinnon running around with that looks like a piece of Ghostbusters tech. Furthermore, Boston's Everett High School can also be seen transformed 'Bronx Kuyper Middle School.' To top things off, there also seems to be some kind of street scuffle (I wouldn't exactly call it a brawl) between two unknown men. Although, to be honest, I'm not sure if this is part of the movie, or whether two die-hard Ghostbusters fans of differing opinions got into an argument - I've been seeing that a lot in comment sections recently. Anyway, check out the images below:

Currently, we're not quite sure if Paul Feig's Ghostbusters is a reboot or some kind of sequel/spin-off. There has been talk of a Ghostbusters III, starring the original cast, for sometime, however now it seems they will not appear in Feig's movie. With this in mind, it's not clear if there is another Ghostbusters sequel in pre-production which will act as a more direct sequel. It is worth noting, however, that the official title of this film appears to be Ghostbusters and not Ghostbusters III.

The story is also relatively unknown, although we do have the following synopsis:

[Kristen] Wiig and [Melissa] McCarthy play a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. Flash forward a few years and Wiig lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia U. (Like the original, the story takes place in New York City, even though it’s being shot in Boston.) Which is pretty sweet, until her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia. Wiig reunites with McCarthy and the other two proton pack-packing phantom wranglers, and she gets some sweet revenge when ghosts invade Manhattan and she and her team have to save the world.

Despite this seemingly entirely new story, there does at least seem to be potential some crossover with the original movies. Feig recently Tweeted an image of himself playing with some green slime, suggesting the green ghoul Slimer might make a comeback.

Ghostbusters is currently due to release on July 22nd, 2016
