How do you make horror movies more immersive and terrifying to real people? Well, it's simple, you replace the word 'movie' with 'game show' and run from there.
According to HorrorMovies.ca, directorial twins Jen and Sylvia Soska will be hosting a new horror themed game show with the title, Hellevator. Personally, I think bad puns usually kind of detract from the terror, but it seems Hellevator is dedicated to proving me wrong.
According to the press release from developer GSN and Blumhouse Productions, Hellevator will be a psychological horror game show, in which the Soska Twins pull the strings and take sadistic delight in the suffering. It states:
GSN has ordered eight episodes of a horror-themed game show called Hellevator, which will feature teams of three people facing so-called psychological terror and scary challenges to compete for up to $50,000. The logline: In Hellevator, a team of three friends rides a haunted elevator into various levels of an abandoned warehouse. One player must get out on each floor and conquer a frightening challenge in order to earn money for the team. But if they don’t make it back in time, the elevator moves on without them. Horror film icons Jen and Sylvia Soska, aka the “Twisted Twins,” pull the strings throughout the game – taking delight in the horror.
The press release also revealed the 'Twisted Twins' are not the only horror veterans to be associated with the project. Jason Blum, the prolific producer of The Purge, Paranormal Activity and Insidious is also on board as an executive producer, as are Jay Peterson and Todd Lubin, the producers of the even more terrifying (but for different reasons) Lip Sync Battle.
Currently there appears to be no premiere date for Hellevator.
