What a great E3, people! I don't know about you, but I was sufficiently excited and surprised by every conference. Everyone did a great job and there were little to no accidents or embarrassments along the way. But E3 was certainly saturated with franchises and sequels, with the likes of Halo 5, Uncharted 4, Gears of War 4, Fallout 4, [Tom Clancy's The Division](tag:2684169) and so much more taking to the stage. There weren't too many new IPs this year, but the ones we were shown look pretty awesome!
But out of all of them, I'd love to know which games excited you the most. Because to be honest, Ubisoft with For Honor and Guerrilla Games with Horizon: Zero Dawn were two of the most exciting new IPs to appear on the stage and I can't fricken wait to try them out! Let's take a brief look at these games arriving on XBOX One, PS4 and PC.
Ubisoft's For Honor vs Guerrilla Games' Horzon: Zero Dawn
For Honor will be a title that everyone can get involved with on its release date, and though it appeared similar to Microsoft's pretty poor Ryse, it offers up a gameplay mechanic that I've basically always wanted. Ubisoft showed off matches of 4v4, that can involve Samurai (yes please!), Vikings and Knights. You roam big battlefields with tons of NPCs, though they really don't stand a chance against you. The real challenge, comes from other gamers.
Once you find another player, you engage in an intense match of skill. You use your right stick to block incoming blows - point it in the wrong direction and you get hit. It's the closest we can get without holding the swords in our hands and it's basically the kind of game I've dreamed of.
We'll be involved in seriously intense battles of timing and skill while the rage of battle surrounds us. I honestly wish I was there to try out this awesome game, but I guess I'll just have to wait for Gamescom. If you're looking forward to some intense sword and axe play - let us know in the comments!
But with For Honor out of my mind, the one IP that really excited me at E3 was Guerrilla Games' Horizon: Zero Dawn (even though it has a rather ridiculous title). Guerrilla are the guys that have brought us the astounding Killzone series, but now they've moved into the open world RPG framework with a really unique take on a post apocalyptic setting.
The world has been completely overgrown by nature. Our city skylines stand tall, only covered with trees and foliage. Yet our memory lives on in the strange robotic beings we seemed to have created. The remnants of humanity fight these beasts like cavemen, only with insanely cool bow and arrow combinations! It's the kind of game that just screams Sony, and I can't wait to see more of this beautiful game.
But what about you guys? What were the games that surprised you at E3 and which new IP is the one that excites you the most? Do you think For Honor looks good, or will it be a disappointing title on release date? Be sure let us know in the comments below!
Personally, even though I can't wait to wield a sword, Horizon: Zero Dawn was the most intense and exciting fresh IP to appear at E3 - and at least we got to see actual gameplay! Can't wait to hear more from Guerrilla Games.
