When Bethesda announced Fallout 4 during the press conference at E3, it was just like Christmas morning. We were first given the wonderful news of the next installment of the series with a new trailer and gameplay details. Then later on we were informed of a free mobile game, Fallout Shelter. And to top it all off, we were told that the Collector's Edition of the game would include a real, working Pip-Boy, which is the item you use in-game that attaches to your wrist to provide you with various stats, your inventory, the world map, and listen to the in-game radio stations.
Missed the Pip-Boy reveal? Watch it here!
The Pip-Boy was designed to hold our phones inside of it, while running an app to make it look and feel like the in-game Pip-Boy. And not only that, but whatever we do on the app, would immediately take effect in the game. For being a second screen experience, it truly is, in Todd Howard's (Game Director and Executive Producer at Bethesda) words, "the best f---ing one I've ever seen."
I was really excited about this, because I wasn't introduced to the Fallout series until after the release of Fallout 3, which also included a Pip-Boy model. Needless to say, I missed out on the opportunity, and if I wanted to purchase it, I would have needed to spend over $100 USD just to buy the Pip-Boy itself. Ouch. And now I'm afraid that fans of the series will meet a similar fate as the one I had, because all Pip-Boy editions have sold out everywhere.
Some people are currently listing their pre-orders on eBay, but what was originally $120 USD, is now sitting at the very minimum of $230, which is quite the spike. I hope you guys have been saving your Pre-War money, because you're going to need it!
If you happened to miss the pre-order, I'd definitely check in frequently at any retailers, just in case more happen to come in stock, or if someone cancel's their order. Here are some of the ones I know about:
If you happen to know of any other retailers that still have listings for the item, regardless of it being sold out or not, please do let me know in the comments and I'll update the list!
