As you should know by now, Ben Affleck is playing Batman in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and it feels like I'm the only one not digging "Batfleck." Don't get me wrong, Ben belongs in Hollywood, just not as Batman. He's done some amazing work behind the camera, and some of his movies were good, but he's just not the BEST Batman. I've done a post like this before (as you can see from the "More"), and in spite of all of the hate I got from major fanboys, I'm coming back with a vengeance to bring 10 more (hopefully better and more popular) choices to play Batman. So without further ado, here are 10 more actors that could play Batman better than Ben Affleck.
1. Armie Hammer
Armie Hammer would make an amazing Bruce Wayne, hands down. Batman, however, is a different story. Hammer is certainly the type that could play Batman, and was cast in the canceled 2007 film Justice League: Mortals in the role, but he just might not be dark enough for the role. I think he could manage to play dark better than Affleck at least (or maybe add more of a dark tone instead of depressing), and it would be amazing to see him in the role.
2. Michael Fassbender
Yeah, yeah, Michael Fassbender plays young Magneto and is under contract with Fox, blah, blah, blah. The point is he would be a better caped crusader than Affleck. He plays dark very well in his role of Magneto, and he obviously has the body and look to play a superhero, like Batman. He has the pretty boy rich look that comes with Bruce Wayne, but still has that underlying dark look in his face. He's really the perfect choice, it's as simple as that.
3. Taylor Kitsch
A clean cut Taylor Kitsch would be great as a younger Bruce Wayne. I know that they wanted a Batman that was just a little older for the new role, but honestly, he doesn't have to be. The movie executives behind the new movie can do whatever they wanted to with the character, and there's nothing stopping them for going for the much younger Taylor Kitsch. He's done gritty roles in such movies as Lone Survivor, and he has the handsome yet dark look that is specialized for Batman.
4. Thomas Jane
Going off the trend of an older Batman, at 46, Thomas Jane is your man. Ever since The Punisher in 2004, we've wanted to see more. Jane hasn't done much lately, but Batman could be his gateway back into the mainstream. Dark and gritty is this man's entire being, and that's what I want to see with Batman. Not a seemingly depressed expression and a quiet whisper of a Batman voice, dark and gritty.
5. Luke Evans
Evans is at the perfect age, body type, and career status to play Bruce Wayne. Just like most of the other actors on this list, he has a handsome look, but a dark undertone, and can play gritty well. While he isn't as well known as say Ben Affleck or Michael Fassbender, he has done some amazing blockbusters. His character in the Hobbit series is how I imagine his Batman, doing good but breaking the rules at the same time. I would honestly rather see a more adventurous and clever Batman than completely dark and borderline depressing, and that's what Luke Evans could give us.
6. Julian McMahon
Bam, another older actor that would be an amazing Batman. You probably remember McMahon as Doctor Doom in the original Fantastic Four movie, where he showed off how well he can play rich and handsome yet dark and gritty. While McMahon isn't very well known, neither was Christian Bale, and we saw how that turned out. Just like Evans, McMahon is lesser known than Affleck, but that could provide a new look on the actor, and the character as well.
7. Josh Brolin
He was considered for the role, he's surprisingly a fan favorite, and he's one mean looking dude. Josh Brolin is basically our generation's Charles Bronson. While he is lacking the looks to pull off a billionaire playboy, he can play dark so very well. This man is intimidating to even look at, imagine him in the batsuit.
8. Dominic Cooper
Since he played Howard Stark, we defiantly saw how well he can play Bruce Wayne. The question is, can he go dark enough to be Batman? The darkest role I've ever seen Cooper in was Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (say what you will, but it was a better movie than given credit for), and even though he nailed it, it was still off base from Batman. While Cooper hasn't done a role as dark as Batman, he's one of the best (and most underrated) actors of our decade, and could pull it off if he tried.
9. Scott Adkins
While I haven't seen much of Scott Adkins' actual acting, there's one thing he has in common with Ben Affleck: He's extremely buff. Adkins is an actual martial artist, so not only is he in shape, but he could actually do what Batman does. Where everyone else would need stunt doubles, if they cast Adkins, he's the whole Bat-package.
10. Colin Farrell
Colin Farrell can play dark like nobody's business, and with him coming back into the mainstream with True Detective, I would love to see him put on the batsuit. He has the perfect look for Bruce Wayne, and like I said, he plays dark well.
Bonus: MORE actors who could play Robin
He's young, small yet muscular, and very much a pretty boy. He could pull off Robin.
Logan Lerman looks like Robin ripped right off the page. He could bring a very real and traditional Robin to the screen.
Come on, you knew I was going to make this joke. It would be pretty awesome to have Matt Damon as an adult Robin, with a suit resembling Batman's, kind of like Chris O'Donnell. I wouldn't even be mad anymore, just because we're seeing Matt Damon and Ben Affleck's bromance on screen as Batman and Robin. Now if this doesn't happen I'm going to be sad. We should try to get this to happen, #batfleckandramon anybody? Don't actually tweet that, that was one of the worst puns I've ever made. Unless it's actually a good idea, then defiantly tweet it.
What did you think? Do you have an actor that could play Batman better than Ben Affleck? Do you have an actor that could play Robin? Let me know in the comments!
