Ever since she appeared in our favorite ninja's life, Roku has been something of an enigma. Her actions and demeanor seemed to be shadowing something deeper. Something harsh. From her first onset, she has captured readers attention, forcing us to contemplate who this woman, where did she come from, and why is she here. Just like our favorite ninja is thinking.
Roku was only one side to this story. What of the current antagonist Kannon? We get a small glimpse into a small portion of who he is. Hmmm...
Matt Kindt has added another favorite Valiant female character in my opinion in this issue. He takes her origin far beyond what I thought it was going to be. He added more questions to the list, as we see she is trying to uncover her own mysteries. He even takes her character so deep....well, you'll have to read to find out.
The art team of Juan, Clay, Marguerite, and Butch have yet to let up on their game, and this issue is no different. Every page is a portrait, a glimpse of Roku's reality. Sharp lines, bold colors. The paneling was terrific.
The covers to this issue were nothing short of fantastic. Jelena Kevic-Djurdjevic's cover is seductive, yet deadly. Dave Johnson's cover evokes a feeling of "This cover has grabbed your attention, now you have to read this book!". Rafa Sandoval's 25th anniversary means business. Just like Roku. Marguerite Sauvage's cover hints at a fiery passion hidden inside her, totally engulfing our hero. Raul Allen's cover....sexy.
All together this was a fantastic read. Full of trials, and tribulations. Questions need to be asked and answered. And I have a feeling this is just still the beginning...
